You should be doing explosive split sq if you’re only going to hold 25 - don’t wuss out! You’re an athlete - JUMP!
Look at that deadlift PR!! You’ve caught me and are about to pass me. I’ve got to step up my game here. ![]()
I speak for many when I say: “vids featuring electric blue spandex, por favor”.
Nice PR! And I second kimba about the spandex vid! ![]()
i knew you’d love the real stair climbing. hee hee, blue spandex. just make sure the hammies are in focus when they video.
way to go on your DLs!!
super PR’s from a superwoman - wtg Masch. waves hand in the air plus I also vote for what Kimba said. I’m not fussy on the colour as long as it’s spandex ![]()
Thanks everyone!!
Snapper - lol. ok, I’ll ask for a spot.
Kimba - i get my inspiration from you, so, yeah, please set precedence. (I told the chinups that they will be my bitch btw)
Bobbi great idea!
So I just got back from my game. We tied 1-1. It was just a friendly as a season opener.
First half I played center mid, which is weird for me since I usually play on the flanks. But I guess we didn’t have any of our center mids, so I was next in line. I actually played great. My touches were on point and I was fit for it. I think the lifting has definitely helped my speed, so I’m really happy about this. Second half coach put me in as stopper because we he wanted to see how some of the girls played other positions. I don’t really know that position, but I’ll play any position, so whatever. Of course I was apt to leave my position and play more offensively, which isn’t necessarily good for a stopper since you should be marking, but I’m fast and was able to get back to my mark with no problems.
However, one truly horrible thing happened. 2 mins to the end of the second half, I was sprinting towards the ball and all of a sudden I felt like my hamstring twisted up like a rubber band and got pulled. In all my 20+ years playing footie I’ve never once been injured in a game (aside from head wounds and the like), so I don’t really know what happened. At any rate, I sort of went down. I got back up and tried to walk it off, but I was in pain. I had to pull myself out of the game. Again, something I’ve never done in my entire life.
I was really panicked. The first thing that came to my mind was that I wouldn’t be able to play any more. I’m a strong girl, but tears were welling up in my eyes. Not because of the pain, but because I was in shock that this happened and because I was upset - I’ve just been training all off season to be fit for play and the first day back I fuck up my hamstring! WTF?!
I feel better now, but i’m pretty pissed. I made sure to warm up prior to the game, so I don’t understand what happened. The only thing that’s changed throughout my athletic career is the lifting - in that I’ve been lifting more and heavier. So I’m kind of upset that this might be the culprit for my injury.
Sigh. I’m going to take an epsom salt bath now. I really hope this is just a one day tweak and nothing serious. There’s no bruising, so I don’t think its a tear. I blame the lifting, I really do. And I’m fairly upset about this.
oh no! I hope it gets better soon.
It doesn’t HAVE to be the lifting…it could just be that it’s your FIRST GAME BACK…yea? Don’t be so quick to blame the lifting ![]()

evs. i’m not convinced. I’m going to see an art guy.
Then again, I might just be getting old.
Bobbi, I;m excited to try those weighted jumps. What else can i do that’s similar?
Similar how? Explosive leg work?
Maschy, I don’t think you can blame your hamstring pull on lifting. If you’re lifting smart with good form, it should actually help your other activities. I find these weird pull thingies just HAPPEN. You can spend forever trying to trace them to some cause, but sometimes the body just doesn’t cooperate. Hope it’s okay. And take it easy. Hammies can take a long time to fully heal.
And how old are you? The body definitely gets less forgiving with age, but I thought you were relatively young . . .
Sounds like it was just one of those things! Happens to the best of em.
hope it heals quick!!! I too am quick to blame the lifting when something goes wrong…
i think its just a mind thing, I have been having shoulder pain for months… i try to lay off
go light and still it returns?? im blaming it on old age LOL wow it does suck to age…
squat jumps are the best!!! add weighted vest its intense and a wonderful feeling letting that vest drop to the floor once your done ![]()
Masch, Sorry to hear about your injury… I totally understand your disappointment, and worrying about the possibility of not being able to play anymore. I went through the same thing a few times… once when I was a gymnast, and I hurt my rotator cuff; I also tore a ligament in my forearm while playing basketball, and pulled a hamstring while playing football. I recovered from all, and was able to continue playing all sports
The only thing that still bothers me is my rotator cuff injury, when I play vball or racquetball. Since I know you’re a smart girl and a sponge for learning, you’ve probably already done some research… but here are a couple of links that talk about severity, treatment, and prevention of hamstring injuries… which are very common for soccer players, and other athletes who do a lot of sprinting. Hopefully, this will ease your mind about what caused it. I’ll bet all the comments above are on the money. In my case, my quadriceps were stronger than my hamstring muscles, and they fatigued faster, which caused the injury in my skinny little legs haha. I’m not an expert, so unless you already got the 411, take a look at the links, when you get a chance ![]()
I hope you get on the road to recovery really soon, so you can get back to doing what you love ![]()
That sucks about your hamstring pull, but keep your head up! Rest up & do some smart recovery work, and I’m sure you’ll be ready to go very soon.
I understand how discouraging a random injury like that can be. But you’ll pull through!

Exacto. Altho i won’t do anything now.
Thank you ladies! I need the reassurance. I know I’m being a total pussy, so i’m trying to remain optimistic. And thanks for the info HT, I have no 411 on anything, so this is really helpful.
Today the hammie was a bit better. I wore heels to work tho and kind of f*ed it up again, but other than that it really only hurts when I run or take long steps. I have an apt with a PT on weds morning, so hopefully things will get better soon.
Hit the gym tonight for upper body day. Spent a good 1/2 hour foam rolling the legs and did some upper back. Also did some stretching.
N. grip pullups - 5,4,2,3,2,2,2,2,1,1
DB incline bench - 8x30, 7x40, 5x40, 5x35
Pushups - 10plate x15, 25plate x (10,6), (10,6) (10,10) <broken up into 2 sets
Bent over lat raise - 15x12.5, 15x15
Pull aparts - 4x15
So that’s that. Felt like a good workout. Pullups are moving along, less singles which is nice. The 40s are getting stronger, but I can’t mess around with too many warmup sets or I get too fatigued. Even the 35s at the end were super hard. Still digging the pushups, would like 15 consecutive with the 25lb plate. What kind of pushup can I do next? Maybe some explosive ones?
I have some tiger balm on the hammies now - i say ‘them’ b/c the other hammie started to hurt since I’m walking all wonky. Anyways, I’m still going to go to practice tomorrow, but I probably won’t play. Maybe I’ll take a lap or two, or juggle the ball, help out the coach - but that’s about all I think i can manage right now.
Good news is out next game is in 2 weeks - but still, quite annoying.
Anyways, thanks again for the well wishes!
damn. sorry to hear about the injury. hope this shit blows over for you soon enough.
cheers
N
