I had all four of mine taken out at once, under general. When I finally woke up, I wondered why they wouldn’t let me drive, until I realized I couldn’t walk.
If I have to get work done, I’m with the “give me everything you can” crew. No need to increase discomfort just because I can.
So you didnt go with the “natural” approach of tooth extraction. Women have been doing the “natural” tooth extraction since the begining of man.
Shut your face or I’ll naturally extract your teeth.

Lol. Couldnt help it. Just reminded me when my kids were born my x-wife had the first one “natural” and the second with an epidural. She was like why and the fuck did I put myself through the pain of “natural”. It is 2010 life is painful enough why put yourself through things you really dont have to?

Dude, do the gas. Best dental moment of my life (wut?)
The office music was normal elevator type stuff but I was so fucked up I thought I was pac-man. So I started biting the dentist until they “woke me up.” I then kind of went out again and thought I was the ghosts so I tried to get away. Ended up splitting my lip because I pulled away so hard. They woke me up again and were a little more forceful. I went out again but this time thought that my jaw was extended way out (huge underbite) and that I was the tooth getting worked on. I imagined I was just sitting there watching all the work happening while I was spinning in circles.
Crazy shit. Makes me wonder what I would be like on some real hallucinatory drugs…

How much experience do you have dealing with patients who are on phenytoin, Prof X?
It’s not the drug itself that is the issue but how often you get seizures and what instigates them. I doubt there are too many commonly used drugs out there that my patients have not been on.

You pay the same with/without the shot? Sounds like you ripped yourself off.

I know, I know but read Hog Ear’s response to another reply:

By the way Hog Ear, this was in NC(Wilmington). What sucks is that they still charge the same whether you use the needle or not…
Tell me about it, had to pay the same price! But it was nice not being all sloppy mouthed when I left.
I’m all for Hog Ear’s bravery & curiousity but I was taking into account the fact if the shot is included IMO he should have gotten it but he made his choice.

Do dentists put patients under? Or does it require an anesthesiologist? No real reason for wondering, just curious.
It requires a dentist to be certified for general anesthesia.
This is often done in a hospital setting.
Ah, thank you. If you don’t mind, how in depth is the certification? I’ve never been put under so all this stuff is very new to me. My only experience with it is my buddy who is in his residency (for Anesthesiology). Thanks.

Dentists are in the exact same classes as docs in med school. The difference being the specialized focus above the neck the last two years. Dentists are qualified to do plastic surgery in the United States with certification. I am just writing that because you asked how in depth the certification was as if they weren’t skilled enough.
Most general dentists may avoid general anesthesia because of increased liability. Any time you are completely under there is a risk.

Oh alright, I had no idea about that. Good to know. Thank you.
Professor, why not shake things up a bit and wear a Halloween mask instead of your normal, boring dentist mask? I think it would help relieve some anxiety in your patients if you walked in wearing a Chewbacca mask or something.

I’m not too cool for it, glad it’s there. But I wanted to experience something new, I knew it would cause me no harm.
I don’t know why people are raggin on you like youre bragging. I found it interesting. I never considered it. You can make it through anything like that if you just wait it out. Up to a point I suppose.

I don’t know about you, but for me seeing my dentist walking in in a Chewbacca mask would terrify me to my very soul, especially if my dentist was a giant bodybuilder as well.

Maybe instead of his usual scrubs he can come with ala Kai Greene’s show outfit.
