Teeth Drilled, No Anesthetic

all i gotta say is, if you ever get the chance to have nitrous take it. Had that shit for my wisdom teeth was the best 30 mins of my life. just sitting there laughing my ass off.
lol no shit huh? Did you get some sort of award for going through it without an anesthetic? Or just the coolness of being able to post about it lol.

Fuck.That.

I have several fillings. I don’t like dental visits-- cleaning or drilling.

I want gas, needle, novacaine, heroine, vodka, sledgehammer, whatever the fuck it takes.

Yes, I’m a big dental pussy.

Never been to the dentist…should be an interesting experience whenever it happens!

Doubtful. People like you usually just end up showing up when you need dentures.

I did one time as a kid as well. Weird thing is that it really wasn’t that bad. Granted, I’ve had weird dental issues my whole life, but I still think it’s pretty badass.

Why are you too cool for anesthesia?

I went in for a drill and fill once wired to the gills on caffeine. After 2 shots with no effect the doc asked if I was in fact wired. He then told me that the anesthetic effect will be greatly reduced and that I shouldn’t do that anymore.

The pain wasn’t bad, but the doc seemed pretty damn uncomfortable.

I’m not too cool for it, glad it’s there. But I wanted to experience something new, I knew it would cause me no harm.

Okay had to comment on this post, that was playing this moring on my IPOD when I was doing squats. Love that song.

I’m going to guess that you’ve never experienced a significant amount of pain in your life, thus you feel the need to “test yourself.”

People that have actually been through shit don’t feel the need to do this.

I used to do the same thing. Then I went through some shit. Now I don’t feel the need. Maybe if I get older and feel I’m getting soft I’ll do it again, just to make sure I still can. I understand the desire completely though.

Dude, I was on my way to write the exact same shit.

People who go through shit don’t feel the need to test themselves like this. This is the action of someone sheltered.

I literally almost spit my oatmeal out.

Looks like I’m going to need all 4 wisdom teeth taken out soon. A co-worker said he got the gas and couldn’t remember a thing, I think I’m still too much of a pussy for that, I wanna be out completely

You pay the same with/without the shot? Sounds like you ripped yourself off.

As long as the dentist assistant doesn’t flip the x-ray later on & then it happens like this (@ 0:15)

People don’t even read the thread anymore before they respond.

My wife was a dental assistant for years. She told me a story of a little Russian lady who had a root canal with no pain killer and never flinched. The old lady explained that where she came from there was no anesthetic and the quality of dentistry was a lot more caues for concern. After hearing that story, I never took the needle again–for fillings. I haven’t yet needed a root canal.

In the end, my wife says if a dentist will work on you without painkiller, he’s highly skilled and that’s a good sign. Kinda like a heart surgeon who’s willing to operate without blood transfusions: He knows what he’s doing.
I’m sorry but how skilled someone is as a dentist has nothing to do with working on someone without anesthetic. Pain is relative and some people can tolerate much more than others. If a cavity is SMALL it may not need to be numbed. If it is large, I am not sure why anyone would choose to not be numbed up.
I agree with this. I don’t think it’s just pain that’s relative but the type of pain and where it is varies in peoples tolerances. I’ve had babies without drugs and it hurts but is tolerable to me. However, today I have to get my teeth cleaned and I took an ativan because I can’t stand the feeling of my teeth being scraped and poked. The smell adds an extra layer of anxiety to me. I get the feeling that some level of anxiety surrounding dental visits is commonplace but I’m not sure why that is.

OP reminds me of the scene in “Little House of Horrors” where Bill Murray plays the masochistic patient, wanting the dentist to punish him with pain.

One time, I swear I thought my mouth was on fire when I was getting a cavity drilled. I smelled something burning, and thought the mist from the drill was smoke from the fire. Nitrous is a hell of a drug.

How much experience do you have dealing with patients who are on phenytoin, Prof X?

I had all four of mine taken out at once, under general. When I finally woke up, I wondered why they wouldn’t let me drive, until I realized I couldn’t walk.

If I have to get work done, I’m with the “give me everything you can” crew. No need to increase discomfort just because I can.

So you didnt go with the “natural” approach of tooth extraction. Women have been doing the “natural” tooth extraction since the begining of man.
