like to hear from anyone who used canthaxanthin
a food coloring which gives skin a tan appearance. Any negative side effects?
It will turn the palms of your hands and soles of your feet kind’ve orangy/reddish looking. Some say it can be hard on the liver but I kind’ve doubt this. It’s a cousin of beta carotene whereas beta carotene is the orange color seen in carrots, sweet potatoes etc canthaxanthin is the deeper red color seen in lobster, apples, and other tan or red colored fruits and vegetables and it likely has unknown benefits to the human body like many other undiscovered compounds found in fruits and veggies. It is stored in the fat layer of your body and since your skin is translucent when ingested over time you appear to be tan. I used the LeTan brand several years ago and got many compliments on my tan and nobody ever thought it looked funny or unnatural including myself. The only problem was my hands and feet looking a little bright.
I tried some untill my brother and my mom noticed i was turning orange.
I’ve never used the canthaxanthin but something I found very useful in developing/maintaining a tan is L-tyrosine. I did a little internet research on self-tanning and found most of the lotions, potions and pills contain some level of it so I figured ‘what the hell’. It’s cheap and since it’s just an amino acid I figured it can’t really do too much harm to my system if I use a lot, so I quadrupled the bottle’s recommended dosage. I take 1000mg morning and night. My tan definitely develops faster, with fewer sessions in the tanning bed, and lasts longer - all a good thing in my book. I later learned that it has other benefits, too.
