I favor disc 2 myself.
I love driving to work blaring “so what”…get lots of looks.

I too love Testament, but you’ve missed my other favourites:
Nuclear Assault: Game Over, The Plague, Handle With Care, Survive.
Sepultura: Chaos AD, Roots, Beneath the Remains.
Flotsam And Jetsam: No Place for Disgrace, Doomsday for the Deceiver.
Metal Church: Metal Church, The Dark, Blessings In Disguise.
Mortal Sin: Mayhemic Destruction.
Stormtroopers of Death (SOD): Speak English or Die.
Death Angel: Ultra-Violence.
Can’t beat metal like that, makes everything made in the last 10 years seem decidedly lame.
Joe,
How old are you mate?
Everything on your list brings a smile to my face. Mortal Sin!!! That must be 15 years old by now.
Great choices.
My faves:
Nevermore: all of em, Warrell Dane sings better than anyone, Jeff Loomis is an incredible guitarist, awesome songs, can’t go wrong really.
Slayer: Decade of Aggression being a standout. Saw them live once. Life changing experience.
Tool: not really metal, but brilliant.

Damn, I totally forgot about Ministry and the Misfits. Especially Ministry’s album A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste. Awesome!

Erm…23, that selection is the joy of having older brothers.

I haven’t read the whole thread but a few that probably haven’t been posted…
Carnal Forge - Please…Die!
Fear Factory - Demanufacture and Soul of a New Machine
Dark Tranquillity - Character
Strapping Young Lad - City and Alien
Dimension Zero - This is Hell
Darkane - Rusted Angel
life of agony - river runs red
pantera - vulgar display of power & far beyond driven
type o negative - world coming down
coal chamber - coal chamber & chamber music
hatebreed - perseverance & rise of brutality
fear factory - obsolete
black sabbath - master of reality
metallica - puppets & justice
megadeth- countdown to extinction
slayer - seasons
iron maiden - live after death
Nevermore is one of my favorite bands of all time. I am constantly listening to Polictics,Dreaming Neon and Dead heart. I was real dissapointed in there new album though :(. As for Warrel Dane, he is one the most noted singers in metal. I place him in the top next to John Bush (anthrax, armoredsaint) Chuck Billy (testament) and Geoff Barlow (ex-Iced earth). My favorite musician/singer and band of all time was,is and always will be Chuck Schuldiner/Death ( R.I.P.)
Man, it should be mandatory that every metal head go experience a slayer concert. I don’t care if theres harder bands out there, Slayer puts on the best concerts period. I saw them at the warfield last time they were in San Fran and I must played mandatory suicide 200 times on my MP3 player after that.
And here I thought you were a country-specific high-straw-fibre dominant individual with Shugart mentioning all those great country recommendations you made to him.
CoC has some great riffs and this new album is quite interesting but also check out some Meshuggah coach. Most CoC fans I know dig Meshuggah but beware of the vocals; he sounds like a juiced-up satan.
A lot more brutal and amazingly technical.

I’ll throw in one recommendation. This isn’t a “best of all time” CD, but it’s a recent CD that really kicks ass. I’ve been listening to it constantly for the past few months. My pick for a kick-ass, newly released metal CD?
Corrosion of Conformity
“In the Arms of God”
I especially dig the title track. I recommend all metal fans give the title track a listen (although, it’s all good).
Make sure to listen to Meshuggah at least a few times before making up your mind about them, on first listen it sounds a little different than you might expect. A lot of Meshuggah fans didn’t like the band the first time they heard them.
Anything by Led Zeppelin. I know they are not metal but are hard rock.
I’m not really a metalhead but there are some records I love :
100 demons - s/t
pro-pain - fistful of hate
slayer - reign of blood
despised icon - the healing process
obituary - world demise
a perfect murder - unbroken
santa sangre - feast for the new god
god forbid - gone forever
lamb of god - ashes of the wake
Ramallah - but a whimper
to add something, there are some awesome hardcore band you metalheads could love such as madball (new-york city’s best), donny brook (LA’s toughest), blood for blood (great catchy songs, warzone (legendary NYHC)and tha’ cro-mags (my all time favourite band)
Moonspell - Sin
BlackSabbath - all
Opeth-Orchid
Mentors:Heterosexuals have the right to rock.
Wow! No mention of Joe Satriani - Surfing with the Alien! ![]()
I got into metal back in the 80s (Maiden, Metallica, Slayer etc.), and I think most new metal is a pile of shite. I have to say, though, that System of a Down rock out with their cocks out! Mesmerize is the best album I’ve heard in years.
Great thread
Dan
You guys have this pretty well covered, but I am surprised no-one has mentioned Judas Priest. Its all good with Rob Halford (I was never a fan of Ripper). Priest’s new album, Angel Of Retribution, kicks serious ass.
I would also mention Rob Zombie / White Zombe, Motorhead (with Fast Eddie), Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Soundgarden, and Godsmack.
-sevendust
-ministry
