Oh yea - How could I forget SAXON - Denim and Leather, Power & the Glory, Wheels of Steel, & Crusader are all great albums - real old school metal.
Krokus is also a good choice.
Great thread! It’s not exactly all metal, but I’ve been listening to the ‘Queen of the Damned’ sndtrk at the gym lately. It kicks! Korn, Godhead, Static X, Deftones, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed! Check it out!
More not metal… but the other stuff I listen to at the gym is all Rage Against the Machine, and Soundgarden!
The talk of live concert experiences got me thinking of the glorious pioneers of Northern Hyperblast:
Kataklysm
Go with the older albums when they had 2 lead singer (before Sylvain was committed). Sorcery is probably your best bet. Damn, they rocked live! I think I’m going to start a new thread…
Somebody mentioned Tiamat. Wildhoney is crazy album, but like a lot of the great bands/albums mentioned here, I don’t know if I would call it Metal, as its a bit too soft.
Dayem, I love Godsmack!!! My absolute favorites are Metallica Black, and Motley Crue, Dr. Feelgood.
Oh yes, those oldies, Pantera, Dokken, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Slayer, AC/DC definitely will always be onreal Heavy Metal. Obviously, we grew up in the 1980’s-1990’s, eh?
Wow, I gotta say I am surprised at the high number of Meshuggah entries here. They are my all-time favorite band, personally, so that is a good thing.
Here is my best attempt to put together a Top 10, but keep in mind they are not in any particular order and represent 20 years of listening:
Metallica: …And Justice for All
Slayer: Seasons in the Abyss
Death: Human
Meshuggah: Destroy Erase Improve
Meshuggah: Chaosphere
Meshuggah: Nothing
Meshuggah: I
Meshuggah: Catch ThirtyThr33
Chimaira: Pass Out of Exisitence (or before it was that, Painting the White to Grey)
Pantera: Vulgar Display of Power
See? I just can’t do it. More:
Sepultura: Arise
Tool: Undertow
Sevendust: Animosity
Sevendust: Home
Death: Spiritual Healing
Anthrax: Persistence of Time
Megadeth: Rust in Peace
Slayer: South of Heaven
Meshuggah: None
Mudvayne: LD-50
I’d name a bunch of Primus ones, but some probably don’t consider them “metal.”

I find the last 4 minutes of “Elastic” so relaxing after a tough workout…
