Switching to Sumo; Template?

Hi Jim/All,

I’ve been primarily pulling conventional since I started lifting. For a few reasons ranging from giving my low back a break to a veteran at my gym recommending it be ideal for my stature, I want to try Sumo for an extender period of time starting next week. I did a deload session with it, screwing around with 1-3 plates, and I liked the feel of it. Really light, but something I want to give an honest go with.

Anyhow, what sort of rep scheme is recommended to begin? Work up until I hit a max set, set a TM and go from there? Use a formula based off conventional?

And from there, using a new lift variant, would a standard 5/3/1 Triumvirate make the most sense? Volume in the pyramid or flexibility using jokers/FSL? I’ll be using SVR with the other lifts and that seems reasonable as well.

I’m kind of stumped. I’d usually use my intuition and make a decision on the day (likely a TM test day and go from there) but I figure this is a question worth asking to get input. Thanks.

Find a TM like usual. Use 5’s Pro or something similar. Nothing much really changes - strong is strong. And at the end of the day, you can stroke theory all you want, but you gotta add weight to the bar.
