5/3/1 for Powerlifting

Let me start by saying thanks for an awesome program that actually works and is easy to understand. I am 45 years old and have never done any serious strength training before. I have been using 5/3/1 for a while and am currently doing SVR from Beyond 5/3/1 wich I love. I have made some real gains and it is just plain fun.

I have decided to enter my first powerlifting meet this November and bought 5/3/1 for powerlifting. I Read through it and had a question.

Since I am still quite a few weeks out I will be using the offseason for strength template for around 8 weeks and I am adjusting my assistance accordingly. My question is: Should I continue with SVR for my 5/3/1 sets/reps or go back to the standard 5/3/1? And if so should I stay with that up until the meet

In general, if you feel motivated and are making progress - it’s hard for me or anyone to tell you to change. The good thing is that the 531 program is based on principles thus each different template is basically the same. The only thing that changes is your effort or belief. And as long as those are “high” you’ll be fine.
