ok so here it is. one month ago, my pr deadlift was 435, belt but no straps. I never use straps. I could do sets of 10 on 315 no problem, no straps or belt. being 18, I was kinda proud of it. anyways, today I stroll into my gym, metal blasting, nutrition and supplememtation followed to a t.
after warming up, I toss 315 on the bar. 5 reps later, horrible grip failure. whatever, I think to myself, just not focussed properly. second set, same result. cue horrified confusion. the ONLY major change I’ve made from a month ago is the substition of bent barbell row in favour of single arm dumbbell rows. can this really make that much of a difference? what the fuck!!!
You could of just been having a bad day man it happens sometimes. Hell when i first wake up i can barely open milk lol. Dont think too much into it just go back next week and train the hell out of your deadlift without thinking about it. Many factors can equal a bad day. How was your sleep? Were you really sweaty? Different bar? Many many possibilities.
Bad days happen, could be your cns telling you to deload, or just a bad day. Have you been deadlifting alot recently. After hitting a deadlift pr 2 days ago i could barely do a chin up yesterday.
That being said I personally prefer bent over rows, but this may not be the cause of grip seemingly getting worse, are you progressing in your pulls and how have you been training for the past month.
