hey, any of you other tall guys have small biceps muscle bellies?
i have a 1 inch gap between my forearm and my actual bicep

i also have a back like dennis wolf’s is attached, more of a T taper than a V
Yup, got about an inch flexed.
Gap

Its all about getting your back huge. I was 220lb last year at 6’3, then i started training my back and became pretty big. Was at 235lb and thought i would become an epic and lean 250lb midway through 2010 until college and the financial Armageddon that follows it ensued. Been without protein for a while and havnt gymed in a month and it looks like its going to be like this for another month.

this is really going to test my resolve. Cant wait for the day i get my money up.

move to a sumo deadlift, it is a revelation for a tall guy (6’4")

Does anyone have trouble with Squats making their ass grow too much?

I’m 6’2, and this is a problem for me.

I mean, not that I want a puny ass, but when I squat frequently it’s the area that I notice the most.

I’ve recently switched to Front Squats only, and left Deadlifts out of my program because of this, which is bad cos I love to DL. I;ve noticed my quads getting pounded more with Front Squats but my ass still heavily involved too.

I squat 3 times per week, along with a pressing movement and a pull.

I believe this is more so when the person has longer limbs and a shorter torso rather than the other way round.

Anyone have any tips on this? I don’t have a leg press, or any machines in my gym for that matter.
I am 6:2 also and I get the same thing with my glutes getting worked more so than my quads or hamstrings.I switched back squats for front squats and am noticing a difference in my quads in the past month.I also added walking lunges and split squats so It could be just the extra volume. My training partner and best friend is 6:5 so I never consider myself tall because he always overshadows me ha.

I just recenty got back in the gym after an injury and switched my squats from low volume heavy weight to the converse. It feels like a brand new excercise. I dropped the weight from what would normally by 405 to 225 and repped out for 5*15. This was Saturday. My legs are just now feeling normal. What is important is that I really was able to focus the weight on my quad muscles and less on the glutes.

Also, 3 x per week is a bit too much for squats.

No wonder your ass is huge.

whats up guys,

first let me say this thread is baller. i havent read it all yet but i intend to when i get the chance.

just checking in: 6’5" just reached a steady 200lbs. former bean pole (maybe i still am compared to a lot of you guys with >250 wtf!). weaknesses are chest and lats. my arms tend to take most of the work. but forget about forearms they dont exist.

keep this going its great to hear from everybody!

I’m 6’3 ish and have found that 4-6 reps at 85-95% of your max for sets works wonders on us tall bastards out there. It’s slow gains, but it works wonders on calves too. Low Vol, Heavy Weight.

Perfect Rep also.

Hi guys,

I have just started out bodybuilding. I have always played sport (tennis, rugby, swimming), but it is time to focus on muscle building. Are there any good muscle building tips/exercises for taller guys, or anything that i should be careful of. I am 6ft4, 210 lbs, and I tend to struggle to build my chest. Any advice or help?

Cheers

Oh boy…

All of us gangly storkmen, together in one thread. Such wonderful mutual support…now I know what it feels like when doves cry!

6’4", 240 lbs here. I’ve got some weird leverages that can be both advantages and disadvantages. My bench and shoulder press numbers are abysmal, but yet I’m able to crank out a good number of pull-ups. I also find curls, dumbbell flies and deadlifts to come rather easily.

I have to echo what has been said with squats…if you’re tall, don’t squat just because it’s “hardcore” or out of any sense of inadequacy if you don’t do it…chances are the leg press will yield far better results for you.

x2

I’m 6’4’’ and have struggled with legs over the years. However, I have had some success recently with some principles I picked up from Thibs’ old program “pillars of strength.” I added a higher volume rest-pause day with uni-lateral exercises in between my heavier days. I feel like it has helped with recovery, and the increased volume has triggered some new growth.

I’m obviously not working with heavy weight as frequently, but my body has responded well so far.

Great thread!

If I remember correctly you are very lean at this weight too, correct?

Wow, I just realized I posted in this thread already about a year ago, with almost the exact same info! I’m getting old…

I’m not as lean as in my hub photos, but I’m probably hovering around 15% at the moment. I changed jobs a few months ago from one which required a lot of walking to a very sedentary one, and I’ve had to adjust my calories to accommidate for it.

How much did you say you weighed in your HUB photos?

230? 235? Not sure. I’ve never relied too much on the scale…

Regardless, there can’t be many Japanese people you’re size. How do the women over there respond?

No, there aren’t, although a good number of the guys here are deceptively strong. There’s a trainer at my gym who’s about 180 lbs who benches 405. The guy is “in shape” but doesn’t look like a 4-plate bencher! I’ve also had my ass kicked in arm-wrestling here a few times…the Japanese take it seriously as a sport and sometimes join clubs.

Guys are getting bigger though, as the diet in the past 30 years has come to resemble the Western one in many ways, for better or worse. I see the odd guy who’s 6’4", but its rare.

The women usually say “okii!” (big!) or “dekai!”" (huge!) when they speak to me for the first time. Not that this is anything to brag about, but I’ve banged a ridiculous amount of Japanese girls over the years, so I guess they aren’t intimidated by me. This is not hard, because if you’re a foreign guy without any kind of physical deformity, it’s very easy to get laid here.

I am 6ft4 and trying to get into bodybuilding and away from my sports background. Would continuing sport (tennis and rugby) and other activities (yoga and pilates) have a negative effect on muscle gains or would it be beneficial to building muscle (being a tall bloke)?
