i also have a back like dennis wolf’s is attached, more of a T taper than a V
thats actually a long muscle belly if when flexed there’s only an inch gap.

And yah I have high lats too, but not as high as dennis.

Yup, got about an inch flexed.

Didn’t know that was considered long, thanks.

Not that the T taper looks bad at all whatsoever, but for a long ass time up until about a year ago, I thought that my back was just small, not attached differently.

I’m 6’3" and thanks to a change in circumstances I am now training for size. I’m starting at a lean 195lbs, so I have got some way to go to looking even halfway decent.

Just on this issue of small muscle bellies, I have at least 2 inches between my forearm and my bicep when flexed, does this mean I have even more shitty genes to contend with?!

not shitty. just not arnold haha

Hey guys…6’4", 227lbs here…I started out around 292lbs of lard…got lean through running and kinda became a “skinny fat”, getting down to 215…learned about nutrition and lifting and have been packing on the lean muscle since February but recently (last week) got diagnosed with a SLAP tear in my left shoulder…argh!

I get my MRI on Wednesday and will hopefully find out what the extent of the injury is and if I’m having surgery or not. If so, I’ll probably have a 4-6 month setback with upper body but this thread has been extremely helpful…I identify so much with some of the “tall guy” issues such as squat and bench weight…

Current 5RM squat is 315 and 1RM before the shoulder injury was 285. Deadlifts are right about 335 5RM at the moment.

age:17
Height: legit 6’6"
shoe: 17
wingspan: 6’10"
weight: 275

needless to say I agree with everyone else and say that bench and squats are reasonably harder on the tall folks. Im gonna be doing some trials to see which best responds to me as far as those two, im going to be emphasizing more on leg presses than the squat, and as far as the bench goes, experimenting with the location in which I grip the bar.

Btw definetly the best body building forum I have encountered!

Got my wisdom teeth pulled out today. Not going to be able to eat solids for about 2 weeks. I’m going to lose so much precious body weight. sigh Can’t lift for a while either, even if I wanted to. Damn. I’m going to start a thread asking what foods i should eat, but I’m not sure if one has already been started. Anyone know?

have like 8 protein shakes, and put some egg whites in it

I just had my wisdom teeth done about 3 months ago and it took 6 days to get me eating and training normally again. You’ll be good to go quicker than you think.

Also, I don’t think 6’2 qualifies as tall for the purposes of this conversation. Unless you are pretty disproportionate, I’ve found that it isn’t until about 6’4 or 6’5 that the world stops being built with you in mind.

This is very true. I find that certain comforts and conveniences are JUST out of my range at 6’4". I’ll test drive a car, put the seat back as far as it can go and realize that its about 3 inches too short. Most jeans available in stores stop right above my ankle, making me look like some crawfish-collecting rube.

The worst, though, is shopping for shoes. Any other size 13s or above here? I go into Foot Locker, get measured, and hear an audible sigh from the attendant as they read out “13”. I see a cool looking pair of shoes and ask if they have it. “I’ll check in the back”. 3 minutes later, “nope, only goes up to 12”. Repeat this about 10 times as your selections become less and less stylish. “Nope, just to 12 sir”. You finally start to lower your standards, looking at shoes you never intended to buy. I mean, is size 12 the cut-off between normal, bipedal human and gangly, stork-like freak?! Finally you ask “well, what DO you have in a 13?” and they emerge 10 minutes later from the backroom with a pair of leopard-print Converse, some all-white Reebok tennis shoes that a circa-1985 stock broker would wear, and a pair of flip-flops made out of molded, neon-coloured polyurethane.

Thanks Foot Locker, although I’m impressed by your selection of larger sizes I’ve opted instead to wrap my feet in burlap sacks.
OK this made me laugh. Very similar experience here in Mexico. I have now found 1 store that has jeans long enough for me and when I walk into shoe shops I don’t bother checking what I like I just ask them to bring out anything in my size they happen to have.

And for the record

33
6’4"
185lb (up from 155lb 9 months ago)
Have always been active and worked out but only recently got the eating part right, that has started packing the lb on. I do a modified WS4SB and lots of BJJ and MMA training.

I actually seem to have plateaued a bit at 185 so am changing things up to really focus on my back for a bit to give me a frame for the other lifts to increase.

The best is when I go to my doctor. He will always say something like , “so hey, how much ya bench now, hahah” yet when he weighs me starts telling me that I am taking weightlifting too seriously and am damaging my health because I am “overweight.” It is sad how little MDs know these days about something so important as exercise and Exercise physiology.
It’s interesting that he’s giving you a hard time about it. One of the best compliments I’ve ever gotten with regards to physique was from a doctor who said “well, normally I’d be concerned about the weight gain but it looks like it’s mainly muscle mass so good for you.”

do you guys find it easier to strain your lower back?

I’ve been trying to strengthen my PC chain in general a lot and that has helped a lot.

Fuck.

I am 32 years old, 6’5" 330 lbs, size 14 shoe, and 44" waist. I have a LOT of body fat to loose. I have not lifted for 3 years, lazy, and I just picked it up 13 weeks ago. I have used this site for years, but have not been consistent in my workout. I really like this thread.

I personally like to change up my workouts every 8 weeks. I try to hit the muscle from a different angle. I am getting leaner and strength gains are really good. I have gone from .5 of body weight on Bench, DL, and Squats to almost .9 on all three. My goals are to lift double on DL and Squat, and 1.5 weight on Bench.

My big issues are are the forearm muscles. I have started to see the gains I want to see, but my forearms and grip are really lacking.

Thanks to everyone on this site for all their information.

Just enjoyed reading this thread so lets bring it back.

I’m 6’4 with a 6’8 span.
Weight is now 205lbs
Just bought a new suit an needed 44 jacket, 36 on the waist. This a result of now having recognisable glutes, courtesy of dead and his Romanian cousin. Deads are probably my best lift, I pulled 350lbs last week. Its far from were I want to be but a long way from were I was.

For me I only started to make progress once I’ve changed my outlook and attitude.

The mantra I’ve heard repeated on this site of, “To get extraordinary results requires extraordinary behaviour, training, eating, etc” hit home with me. That realisation that I can’t eat the same as the guys I live with when they’re 5’10 and 170lbs and hope to make progress.

Great thread;
Bookmarked; good info shared;

I’m 6’3

Thanx every1

Read the first page but definitely gonna read the rest tomorrow after some much needed sleep.

Does anyone else find that deadlifts are much easier than squats? My stats:

Deadlift 325 X 4
Squat 225 X 5 (below parallel of course)

WTF lol
