This is my first post so I’m sure I’ll catch some shit and thats alright, I feel like its what I may need.
Here is why I am looking for help, about 3 years ago I woke up to find myself a flabby 215 lbs and I’m only 6’0. I was 23 years old and had really let myself go.
So I started running, eating “clean” and lifting a little at home. I dropped about 20 lbs over a few months and got over my vagtastic fear of going to the gym and joined my local Y. I have been lifting since then with about 6 months in between which I refer to as a “lack of motivation”.
Anyway now I am about 183 lbs and trying to bulk up a bit. I just can’t seem to get over 185 lbs. I eat about 3500-3800 calories per day of quality, clean foods and am on a 4 day/week TBT program. I’m just starting to incorporate a litte cardio in there as well. I’m sure I’m missing a things that would help so thats why I’m posting this.
Any advice, knowledge, wisdom, anything that will help is appreciated. Thanks!
Clean bulking is a very slow process. There’s no way around that.
Good job on starting to lift, and introducing me to the word ‘vagtastic’. I am so going to use that in my next conversation, somehow.
You might not be eating as much as you think you are. You’ve probably got a diet log, and are reading labels and stuff like that, but if you’re not, you should.
Drop the cardio. Or eat more. Keep at it, you’ll get there.
No I looked in my ass but couldn’t find it so I do actually log every couple of days or so. Just recently have a I really started to pay attention to my numbers in the gym. I use a workout log every time I step into the gym. I have been gaining pretty quickly in squat and deads but I can’t seem to boost my bench much at all. I assume it will come around when my overall strength improves. I was pretty weak when I decided to get serious in the gym.
The concern as to whether or not the numbers you posted was real - many beginners make up the number they think they’re eating at, and are actually eat much less than.
If your gains have slowed, you definitely need to free up some calories for muscle growth. You can do this by dropping the cardio, or eating more.
If you decide to eat more, I recommend adding more carbs PWO or at breakfast.
I can see where people would make numbers up, probably out of pure ignorance. I’m not sure I can quit playing basketball twice a week so I am going to increase calories until I get to about 4200 and see where that takes me. I imagine that it will be a trial and error process to find the right amount of calories. Thanks for the help.
