Strong Accessory Lifts; Weak Power Lifts

Let me know if you find them out here. I will definitely buy a pair and take them to the gym.

@Carnage: Yea, it’s ridiculous. He’s 4 inches shorter and the same weight, and he’s almost 2x my squat and deadlift. When he’s not around I can usually hold my own in the gym. Otherwise, I’m just an afterthought. That’s why we train a few times a year. Must protect the delicate male ego.

But seriously, he knows his shit. He’s a good coach and I’m sure if our schedules matched better, I would be stronger myself.
Yeah man, just considering his BB rows… I’ve NEVER seen ANYONE do that at a similar bodyweight, no matter what form or technique used.

Hey Hungry, one of these days I’m gonna fly over and train with you too. See if we can get your bench to go up all the way to my second warm-up set or something.

Just kidding brother, I hope you get rid of that injury… Proof that olympic lifts are the devil.

Lol you asshole. Actually, as far as I can tell, that BS is 100% healed up now, I’ve been pain-free there for a couple months now. I still haven’t done a single powerclean since though haha. And maybe when you fly here I’ll teach you how to sumo deadlift right

My sumo still eats yours for breakfast, kiddo, but probably not if I were down to your bodyweight…

Still, one of these days you’re gonna beat me there, just a matter of time I think.
You’re hella strong on all pulling exercises man, if you get up to 240-250 or so at your height you can probably leave all my pulling PR’s in the dust…
Lots of potential still.
You stay injury free and Bolton may just end up having a heart attack competing against you in 5-10 years…

Glad to hear that you’re healed up.

Yeah but, but, but PROPORTIONATELY mine is better and that’s what matters right???!???!

I do plant to break a 900 lbs deadlift, and possibly even 1000 lbs someday. Time and training will tell.

njrusmc, bad news and good news and bad news.

Bad news: Dick’s doesn’t have Oly DB handles

Good news: The walmart on 17 does

Bad news: On the package it says “holds 50 lbs”

Fun news: I’m gonna see just how much weight they can really hold

Man, browse some of those sites like APT etc… One of them must have a proper handle, what with the popularity of kroc rows and all… I got mine custom made over here though… Reminds me, I haven’t done kroc rows in a while, they take too much out of me with the current routine.

Well these were pretty cheap, so I bought’em. If they break, no big deal, I’ll go buy a “proper” pair haha. Point is, Kroc rowing in the 30-40 rep range was a bit excessive I think lol. I prefer to keep it under 30…

^Thanks. I tried the belt today for deadlifts, I felt the difference. I can feel that when I puff my stomach out, it becomes very tight. Question is … usually when I tense up while beltless, I don’t necessarily puff out like I would with a belt. I tighten up, but it wasn’t intentional puffing, if that makes sense. I managed a few heavy triples, followed by some sets of 5 … to get the hang of using it. I think I will break out the straps as well and try for new PRs. I figure if I can pull heavier weights with belt + straps, after hitting 405x1, I should be able to pull high 300s raw.
this is exactly what I was referring to when I said you don’t know HOW to use your abs. The belt will teach you, just make sure you are pushing out AND tensing.

As far as the DB thing, seriously guys, watch craigslist, buy a cheap used bar, and make your own dumbbell, you’ll NEVER look back. I’ve got one that can be loaded to 235 with 20lb standard 1" dia plates.

Threewhitelights is right. it’s all about your abs. You cannot round if you are tight. Fill up your belly with or without a belt and you will be far more stable. I can guarantee you won’t round in the bottom if your abs are tight enough. You might be high and then you can work on flexability but you will feel strong. One more thing, push your knees out.
