Hey, been training for a couple of years and am trying to fix some weaknesses. More specifically my piss poor dynamic and static flexibility, any advice on good books would be greatly appreciated as id like to go from my present fence post rigidity to a more gumbyesque physicality
In my opinion the books that I listed below are the best on stretching:
Stretching Scientifically by Tomas Kurz published by Stadion
Relax in to Stretch by Pavel Tsatsouline published by Dragon Door
Super Joints by Pavel Tsatsouline published by Dragon Door
Sport stretch (I don?t remember authors name) published by Human Kinetics
That should get you started!
Read the stretching article series that was published a wile ago here at T-mag.
Not every athlete or person should stretch for some it could be counter productive and my even lead to injury. Stretching levels depend on your sport and/or goals.
I agree with BOSS on Pavel’s books. I just finished reading “relax into stretch” a couple of days ago, and will get to work on it, starting monday. I also go super joints, and will start reading that after I finish reading his “naked warrior.”
James, in order to be more flexible, you need to quit weight training forever. Instead, you should turn on the tv every morning and do the yoga routine on the oxygen channel. You will be able to tie yourself into a pretzel in no time.
Ok I’m just kidding. I would definately check out the Pavel books, that guy is super-flexible.
