Stretching 101?

So I’ve gone through numerous articles and (much like articles on most fitness topics) they all either confuse me, contradict each other, or go way over my head. Some say static is bad, some say static is good, some say it’ll make you weaker, some say it’ll make you stronger, some say do it pre/post workout, some say don’t do it pre/post, and some just say whatever the hell they want. I want to incorporate stretching into my regimine but I don’t know how to go about it. Can anybody explain stretching methods/techniques to me and give me a quick rundown of when I should/shouldn’t stretch, how long should I stretch for, and just good general know-how’s of what I should be doing? I’d even appreciate people pointing me in the right direction with pictures and/or links. Thanks!

what makes you think we will agree if most ‘experts’ can’t. Try it for yourself and examine the results.

I would say this. Static is better than bouncing. Don’t stretch a cold muscle or a muscle you are about to engage. This leads me to stretch after my workout. If you are not stretching you most definately should be.

Not does “popular opinion” go against static stretching, but I’ve read that stretching post workout is not good on this very site in a stretching article. See this is what I’m talking about! Cries

Again, what did you expect. This has worked for me. Or at least hasn’t hurt me. Just cause you read it her doesn’t make it so.
