I’m 14 and I currently deadlift a little over 255, I was thinking of getting straps but I think I’d be better off getting another gripper. What do you think?
Get your hands stronger. I feel at low levels of lifting straps are like crutches. Just my $.02.

How long have you been deadlifting? when I started I found that my grip strength improved tremendously the first few months.
If you feel that your grip is holding back a lot then maybe try using straps on just the weight you can’t hold without accessories.

At your age and at that weight I would try and not use straps. Once you start it’s hard not to use them and you have plenty of time to build up your forearms.

I Agree…
do you use an alternating grip when you deadlift? If you don’t I hightly recommend it as it will greatly increase the amount of weight you can do without straps. That being said I don’t have any problem with straps when you get up into the heavier poundages.
If you can deadlift 400 but your grip is giving out for christ sake use some straps. This isn’t a forarm exercise after all. Your forarms can get stronger on the lower weights or just try doing exercises for your forarms.
at 14, no way no how should you need straps. you would be better off with the gripper. Strong hands and forearms will help you rise above the rest of the pack.
I don’t think you need straps, I just ordered some but thats more of ACC movements when going for high reps. (Shrugs, SDLDL, Romain Deadlift, etc)
I need to give my hands a break sometimes since they get worked real hard from heavy deadlifts, rack pulls, farmers, etc.
I agree, avoid the straps for now. You are young yet, and have a long way to go. Don’t pick up bad habits yet.
If you are having grip issues, get another gripper, pinch some plates, static BB holds and rack lockouts. Get some chalk. But don’t get straps.

I’ve been deadlifting for several months now.
1 Get some chalk.
2 Learn the hook grip.
3 Leave others your own age in the dust
