Stop the Nonsense!!

DocT,

“Congrats on the “Non Sequitur Post of the Year”. Your award of being ignored forever will be along shortly.”

Are you saying that butter doesn’t contain vitamins A, D, E, and K?

Neil

Where the hell did this guy come from?
Shit you are spewing alot of crap, nielG
…cant see the forest for the trees…
where do you get your “facts” from? cleo? tv guide?

Ok…

Being an organic chemist, and having geared it towards biological chem, I can tell you Neil that a lot of what you said is bullshit.

1st. Synthetic vitamins, are no different than natural vitamins. Just like synthetic DNA is no different than natural DNA, and synthetic RNA is no different than natural RNA. The difference is the process…and difficulty in isolation. Unfortunately, automated synthesis of many of these compounds have yields that are as low as 50% for each step. So after 6 steps you have 1.5% (=0.5^6)yield. 2 or 3 years ago, the Nobel prize was awarded for a method of synthesis that allowed for 95-98% yield for each step that requires stereospecificity (ie. left or right handedness).

2nd. One of reason mono- and polyunsaturated fats are better for you than saturated fats is because of cell membrane construction. Cholesterol, and unsaturated fats (mono- and poly-) are required for fluidity in the lipid bilayer. This is extremely important for every living organism from ameoba to man. Some saturated fats are important, but THEY are the one’s that should be minimized…not the unsaturated one’s (esp. mono-'s)

As for the other stuff that’s been spewed, I’ve become more and more disappointed, so I don’t even want to get in on them.

Good luck with your coronary…and your subsequent pentuple bipass surgery. I think we all wish you the best of luck in your recovery!

(Goldberg: did you think that was as funny as your stamp collecting joke?)

Everytime I giggle, my popcorn gets spit into my keyboard.

Stop it guys.

Raw eggs contain a substance called avidan(sp?) which binds biotin and prevents absorption

Never argue with idiots…they just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Neil-go back and get all your facts straight. Taking half of your wrong info out of context, does nothing good for any of us.

ND-very funny. Much more scientific than my answer.

Neil, my last post stands alone. If you can’t follow the train of logic or lack thereof, that’s not my fault.

Seriously, you need to get many things straight before you preach the way you do.

I had this long intelligent, informative post but the dam browser did that stupid log in thing again! All I have to ask is, are you getting enough fiber? Because it seems like you might have something stuck up your butt.

how can y’all say that foods and chemicals created by machines are as healthy or healthier than the food nature gave us, in it’s original form? things that have only been around a few years can’t possibly be proven to be healthier. i don’t care how many government or drug company funded studies you show me, noone has lived long enought to prove that eating unsaturated fats are healthy, bla bla bla. same goes for a “vitamin” created in a lab, an oil chemically processed out of a soybean or whatever. it’s all about money, not your health. the longer you trust the goverment and drug company sponsored studies, you’ll have poor health.

NeilG:

I think that you’ve got a lot of learning to do. Anyone who has been doing this for only 6 months is no expert. So, start reading and stop spreading bull.

Seminole chick, that was quite a rant without a bit of substance to it. Congrats!

DocT and Goldie make me laugh, because they are funny.

NeilG makes me laugh because he is ________! (someone funny fill in the blank, I’m feeling kind of sick from licking stamps for my collection and the glue has gone to my head)

DocT - I have to 2nd that motion. Maybe she lives with NeilG? Ooooh, 2 arguing morons in one household - now that’s some scary shit.

Neil and Seminole Chick’s posts remind us that “Ignorance is Bliss”.

We all like a good argument, but this is like debating to a five year old over the existence of Santa Claus.

Please take your homeopathic bullshit elsewhere.

NeilG, Most of us have all read the articles on t-mag about the importance of unsaturated fats and EFA/DFA’s and how much of the population is deficient in them. But what I want to know is where you come up with your figure that the you should only consume 5% of poly-unsaturated fats? Where did that come from? Explain why consuming more than that would be harmful and/or usless. Several contributors have explained the advantages of flax/fish oils ect. So if you are going to directly contadict them you need to give us a reason. Why 5%? Why not 4%? Got me?

RS, the funny thing is it happened when i posted that. I hit back, copied, went back to the thread, posted, pasted and it worked. LOL

NeilG,

I see from your other posts that you are fairly new to training and also that you are relatively young. I thought I knew everything at 18 also, so that is quite understandable. My first question is where are you getting your information from? A little bit of what you are saying has a kernel of truth to it. For example, medical science has shown a link between polyunsaturated fat intake and cancer. There is a certain level of polyunsaturated fats a person must have in order to function optimally (and I think this amount probably increases with a hard training athlete). That is what most t-men are trying to get in their diets. The rest of their fat intake should be from saturated and monounsaturated sources. Again medical science has shown a link between saturated fat and heart disease. So saturated fat should be reduced (but not eliminated). So I would agree that polyunsaturates should be limited (although not to the levels that you espouse), but I disagree with your belief that they should be replaced with saturated fats. I would espouse increased levels of monounsaturated fats.

I also have to ask what is it that motivated you to come in here guns blazing trying to challenge much of the nutritional advice from t-mag? I have a feeling that you got hold of some sort of alternative medicine literature and it convinced you that it was the right way (since it was so slickly written like most alt. med. literature is), so you decided to come in here and shoot down some T-Mag “sacred cows” in order to better “educate” us.

I would suggest that you spend more time learning before you decide to do more teaching. Your passion is good, but unless you have a firm knowledge of basic science you are going to be prone to fall for whatever the latest fad or gimmick is. This will lead to you always oscillating back and forth in your training beliefs. That is not the way to make progress.

PMAc, there scientific evidence that Santa does exist, its all in the biotin.

Natural is always better huh?

I guess I’ll go make myself a nice salad of belladonna, foxglove, hemlock and aconite. Maybe I’ll toss in some death angel mushrooms. Poppies too I think. They are natural, and MUST be good for me. Oh, if only I could get the coconut oil to stay liquid so I could make a dressing.

Yeah, I’ll go do that now. See you soon.
