Still a Fat Man in a Little Coat

Edit: We did get videos of everything but they’ll be up tomorrow.

Edit: I’m retarded.

Sounds like you had a great meet, Jowee. Really happy for you.

yep… great meet all around for all of us. our new guy, Bill did awesome. you would never have guessed it was his first meet. he didn’t make any mistakes that you expect out of a newbie. I’m very proud of him. As for jowee… he was a machine on bench. Like he said, he opened with a PR of 315. went up a little slow but every attempt after that went up faster than the last. it was crazy. He also did awesome on the dead. Nailed his opener and then went on to hit his second attempt at 620. 635 was just out of his range for this meet but awesome none the less.

As for me, i weighed in right at 250. As you all may know, i made a run at getting to the 242’s but my body just didn’t want to keep going down and i didn’t want to cut water to get there. this was still 10lbs lighter than any meet i’ve done and 20lbs lighter than my average weight. As a result, i was a little worried about benching since we hadn’t maxed at all during this past cycle on any of our lifts. I went into the bench with a very conservative opener of 455. Actually i didn’t take my opener serious at all. I didn’t set up tight at all. i basically plopped down on the bench. Then things went downhill fast. On the liftoff Jowee forgot that he had to step away from the bench to allow the head judge to give me the calls. I was watching him follow the bar down and knew i probably wouldn’t get a press command because of it. The judge asked him to move and then gave me the press command. Unfortunately the whole thing through off my concentration and on the way up i lost the bar some but recovered. Unfortunately though, that got me redlighted for the lift. Needless to say i was a bit upset at jowee:) I knew he didn’t mean to do it so i did my best to shake it off but in the back of my mind i was worried that it had taken more out of me that it should have. I had to then decide to take my opener again or go up. I decided to move up to 470. I just sat around after that trying to wrap my head around moving forward. I was also worried that dropping all that weight would affect my bench numbers. I had planned to judge my second attempt on how the opener felt but i really had nothing to gage my next attempts against. Luckily I smoked 470 and then on my third attempt i moved to 480 and smoked that even better. i feel that i probably left at least 10lbs on the bench if not more but i was definitely happy with the outcome.

Going into deadlifts i was feeling really good after recovering from my botched bench opener. As all of you know, i just recently switched to conventional and really had no idea what i could pull with it. I decided to open with 600. I’ll put up the videos tomorrow but it felt like speed work weight. it really upped my confidence. i then went to 630. i smoked that as well. i then decided to go to 660 and smoked that as well. i definitely had 675 or more in me.

so… at a bodyweight of 250 i ended with a 1140 push/pull total.

We are planning another push/pull meet in about two months. my goals for that are a 500 bench and 700 pull for a 1200 total. i feel those are very reachable numbers now that i know where i’m at with my bench and dead at this bodyweight.

videos will be up tomorrow.

thanks for everyone’s support. it really means a lot.

Found a couple meets through the IPA…

This meet is only like 1.5 to 2 hours away, May 7th:

This one looks about 2.5 to 3 hours away, May 21st:

Doesn’t matter to me, but I kind of prefer to do the later one since it gives us a bit more time to train.

I looked up flights for possibly going to the SPF nationals and its minimum $300 ticket… way more than I’m willing to pay.

Yeah, scott was a bit mad after I screwed up and didn’t get out of the way. I’m just glad he got his next attempts even though he went up, lol. Would have been a long drive home if he bombed out from that.

Great job guys

Good job guys… Jowee… you are too funny brother.

here are the bench attempts

deadlift attempts-

Awesome guys !!! Good job Scott !!!

Excellent performances, Meat and Jowee!

Seeing Meat in the singlet was an extra treat (and no, I honestly mean that and yes I know Meat will self-deprecate in response).

Meat are you intending to stay at 250 as a new normal weight?

thanks for the compliment and i’ll fight the urge to self-deprecate just this once:)

yep… i don’t see any point at get heavy again. of course i’ll continue to put on mass as i can but no more fat. my deadlift is FINALLY going somewhere and it’s the result of losing the gut (or most of it).

thanks my friend. it was a good meet.

Great job, meat!

I’m a bit puzzled about one thing. I thought at the beginning of deadlift the butt comes way down. That’s how I’ve been training and it helps. Yet your butt seemed really high. What’s the story?

awesome work guys

starting position is really an individual thing. you don’t want to initiate your pull with your shoulders in front of the bar. as long as they are in line with or slightly behind, you are golden. you also don’t wan’t your hips to rise too fast putting you into a stiff legged position either. you want to initiate your pull with the legs and then as it breaks off the floor you want to force the hips forward to the bar.

you can see from my 660 pull that my shoulders are in line with the bar and my legs don’t straighten out until i’m almost locked out.

Sooo here are my videos:

That first attempt on bench looked like my hardest one, lol. I felt like my third attempt I got super tight and was bending the bar really hard.

Deadlifts is a 20 lb PR, but like a 60 LB meet PR, since I’ve missed 600 twice at meets now…

On another note, I thought I would just lay around today because I am pretty sore. Well we went to church and I was talking to our pastor and he said the softball team was starting up today and I’ve been wanting to try playing again (I played baseball for a long time, but haven’t in several years) so I went home got my stuff and came back. I was kind of nervous about batting since the bats are different, the ball is such an arch and moves slow… but I was cranking them, lol. Felt like home-run derby. I think my added size and muscle may have played a role in that. I was surprised I could still make contact with the ball so well though. My legs are ridiculously sore right now though, lol. Plus, I was getting pretty winded out there.

Anyway, that’s my rant. I’m going to start dropping a bit of weight again (not trying to show my hawt abz or anything) and just get in a bit better shape. Playin softball definitely helps motivate to do it.

They play on friday nights so it won’t interfere with lifting, because if it did I wouldn’t be doing it, heh.

Next meet… breakin 1000 on the push pull! Or I might go back to a full meet. My new squat shoes (white thunders) should be coming soon so im pretty excited to use them with squats. I’ve been squatting with boots, so I’m hoping it feels pretty nice to have squat shoes.

I have a good chance to hit a 1600 total at my next full meet, and since next meet is my last before moving to england… I would really like to do that.

Scott, did you see my post with those two meets listed? Either one look more appealing than the other to you?
