Meat, the rest of the 259 class will be wishing that you made the 242 class after you smoke their asses. I’m hoping for some video.
Best of luck to both of you at the meet!
that’s nice of you to say:) we will definitely have videos of the carnage. Jowee will be opening with PR’s across the board. pretty amazing. this will be my first meet using a conventional dead. should be interesting…

Me too. I also worked up to my squat opener and first/second in bench. No need to DL for me until showtime.
Good luck to you guys.
Thanks. I just worked up to 550 on deads, but I’m going to open with 600. 600 is what I missed last night so I’m going straight for it this meet. I should nail it.
You are opening your DLs with a number that you missed last night? Whoa! A very different approach than I have to competing. I always open with a “safe” number. I think it was Pete who said that he opens his bench with a PR.
Picking meet numbers is a science to some degree and everyone has different strategies.
Lol, sorry… that was a typo. I meant to say last MEET. I missed 600 at our last meet, but I’m pretty confident I will hit it, then go for something a bit higher. I did 585+100 chain 2 weeks ago.

jowee and i both have the same philosophy about competing. we don’t really care about winning a cheap trophy or even beating someone else in your division. it’s all about doing your best. for jowee, his best chance of getting 600 is to go right for it. i know he will smash it but to open with something like 550 is sort of a waste of time when he’s going there to get 600. i would hate to see him expend energy on his first attempt and then risk missing his second.

I’m coming around to this line of thought. I have traditionally been a very conservative competitor. But after doing a number of meets, I find it really is all about me vs. the barbell. I’m going for PRs (and state records) for both squat and DL. Not gonna happen with bench at this time.
I have done this once during the bench portion of a meet with success, and pulled a PR on a second to get a total I wanted. Sometimes it’s just time to kick ass.

Good luck guys.
it makes the most sense for jowee. he’s missed 600 twice now and it’s his reason for going. it will be all or nothing. i see him hitting 600 on his first and then hitting 630 0r more on his second.

I hit 315(+5 lb PR) as a opener for my bench and got it… was a little tougher than I would have liked so I went up to 325 and nailed it. Setup was much better on that one. I went up to 335 for my last attempt and got pumped up for it, got super tight on my setup and brought it down super tight and it went up easier than the other two. Wish I had another attempt… haha. Next time.
For deadlifts I warmed up to 495 and it felt a bit heavier than I would have liked so I was a bit nervous opening with 600. I nailed it though, went up fast and didn’t slow down too bad. I went up to 620 for my second and got it with a bit of difficulty. 635 was my third attempt and I couldn’t lock it out. I missed 600 at my last two meets but got 620 this time. Pretty happy.
Training is going well and can’t wait for the next meet! I’ll let scott tell ya bout his.
Edit: We did get videos of everything but they’ll be up tomorrow.
