Staying Focused Between Sets?

I’m having trouble staying focused on the lift when I’m resting. Between sets, I try to relax my body, catch my breath, slow my heart rate so that I’m as strong as possible for the next round, but thinking about lillies and meadows and puppies isn’t very good for staying hyped mentally.

Any tips? Should I just forget it and stay as pumped as possible the whole time? Maybe divide my rest period in two halves of “rest” and “re-focus”? Thanks.

Mate, you’ve lost me.

You are way over thinking this.

What I think…

Before Lift) This is gonna be fun!

Lifting - starts when I unrack the bar and finishes when I re-rack the bar) Technical shit like using good form.

After Lift) That was fun! Let’s stick another 5kg on the bar and go again.

In between sets I think about boobs. Relaxing and motivating!

I’m having trouble focusing on this thread!

Do you time your rest between sets? If not, I’d highly recommend using a watch to do so. Knowing I’ve got exactly 60 seconds (or however long…) to catch my breath before my next set helps to keep me mentally engaged. Much different from just sitting there kind of waiting to feel good enough to start another set…

In between each set alternate between stretches on muscle groups your aren’t working that day.

Just rest until you feel ready, then take whatever time you need to focus on the lift.

have you considered taking riddlin?

Actually, I’m a very laid back dude 23 hours a day, but when I’m in the gym…don’t talk to me, don’t look at me, I hate you, I hate myself, and I hate these weights. That’s what motivates me. But sometimes getting into that frame of mind makes it hard for me to rest, especially if I’m doing heavy triples or whatever where I have 2-3 minuntes to rest, I can’t wait to get back at it, you know?

On the other hand, thinking about boobs is always good.

Ever try working with a CW style circuit with heavy triples? as in…

Heavy Upper body pull for 3
rest 1 min.
Heavy Lower body lift for 3
rest 1 min.
Heavy upper body push for 3
rest 1 min.
Repeat as many times as desired (I go 8-10 rounds when I do this type of thing)

Less time to get unfocused, and an intense/fun training session. PLUS, you’ll get 3-4 mins. rest for each muscle group.

I’m the same way as you. I don’t like talking to people in the gym. I don’t like looking around–unless there are athletes training too, they’re great to watch (form and motivation, I work out in my college weight room). Fortunately, the place where I work out at has a large timer on the wall; I focus on that until my rest time is up–most of the time I’m just thinking about the next set.

music before during and after the set.

and usually i start the set when the “appropriate” part of the soundtrack is on. add in the mentality of im gonna kick your ass, add the boobs, add the determination and seriousness behind it… and its not all that hard haha. inbetween sets the most important thing is to relax/rest the muscle groups you are training at the moment so i just relax them physically… emotionally i have music boobs and all the stuff i said above to keep me going

im against thinking about boobs. next thing you know you got an erection and your doing deadlifts then the bar gets snagged on your dick… not speaking from experience of course just speculation…

HAHAHAHAHAHA
