Starting back up again..

As some people might have read, I’ve been “on the shelf” since my surgery on April 1st to alleviate the pain on my sciatic nerve caused by a herniated disc (L5). Next week I am cleared to start a resistance training program, but there are some prerequisites I have to follow:

I can only use 50% of the weight I was using prior to surgery, 8-12 reps per exercise, total body workouts, and no more than 8-12 exercises. Would be lifting 3x a week. Any thoughts, or advice on where to start on this? Oh yeah, and no direct ab/low back training just yet either. Thanks! I’m not sure how long this would be going on, next time I go back to check up with my surgeon, I’ll post up on that.

Is this your surgeon telling you this schedule? If you don’t know your surgeon very well I would check his/her background in exercise, I went to many different MD’s for my shoulder and each one gave a different recommendation, so I went to a sports specific therapist and worked out a schedule with her.
But assuming your surgeon knows his/her stuff, then best of luck.

Go see a level 3 or level 4 CHEK certified instructor. They are excellent at rehabing this type of injury. Your in Cali…it might be worth it for you to go to the CHEK institute for a full evaluation.
