Stargate Universe

Any SG1 or SGA fans here?

Who’s giving SGU a try?

I for one am in.

I’m in. It’s written by the sg1 and sga folks. Feels much more battlestar-y so far. We shall see!

I’m still not sure if I am going to like it or not… typically it seems to take these guys a season to get the characters in order so that I can care enough to want to watch… Atlantis took almost 2 years before mckay didnt make me hope someone would shoot him…

i’m gonna watch anything that has “star” or “gate” in the title.

I liked it, but idk if I was biased just cause it brought back stargate. I debateing about not watching it till the season is over and then watch it all at once.

Though it’ll be interesting how it’ll play out. I’m sort of hopeing they’ll do something else besides coming up with yet another more powerful enemy.

I’m watching it on hulu, right now. Missed it this weekend ebcause I took the midget to the Disney “A Christmas Carol” train exhibit.

Watched it last night and thought it was good, but I will have to see how it goes over the next few weeks. But considering it is written by SG1 and SGA alums, then it should be good. And so far I do like the cast.

I’m in for sure. Robert Carlyle is a good actor and if the script is penned by the SG1/SGA team, then it can’t be far off the mark.

Yeah, im a huge SG1 and SGA fan, thought it started pretty slow but the last part made me think its got a lot of potential

I’ll watch it. I was a big SG1 and SGA fan, at least until the last few SGA eps where I stopped caring.
The style of the show is definitely nothing like the old series though. It’s obvious they’re borrowing heavily from BSG, they’re already laying the groundwork to work a lot of character drama in and the camera work itself is straight out of BSG.

Looks like it has potential and there’s literally no other show I’m following on a weekly basis (cept TUF10) so SGU has my undivided attention.

EDIT – SPOILER

(also the immediately following reply)

Or, rather than Battlestar Galactica, the overall theme seems as if it will be like Space: 1999.

Except instead of the Moon flying through space – due to stored nuclear waste exploding on the far side of the Moon – and each week dropping into orbit around some new planet in some new solar system, then for some reason departing again into space so that the next week’s episode can be in a different place, here it will be the Ancient ship dropping them off, for 12 hours only, at a new planet each week.

Or perhaps not, but it seems as if that will be the plot device.

Nicely done Bill. That is exactly what I was thinking it would be, but didn’t want to say too much in case someone reads this that hasn’t seen the show yet and is planning to watch it on DVR (like I did). Anyway, that’s about what I am thinking it will be. Instead of the SG1 team going to the planet du jour for the week, the ship will make a stop at a new planet with a gate and they will check out that planet over the course of an hour. Hopefully it’s not that formulaic, but even if it is, it still has potential. SG1 did that for 10 seasons and was great, so who knows.

First episode was cool. Don’t know much, lots of mystery. It’s good having mystery

At least it’s a more reasonable mechanism than the Moon flying between star systems so quickly, then dropping into orbit around a planet, and then flying away again for no particular reason.

I hadn’t thought about people possibly having it on DVR but not having seen it yet. I apologize to any for whom my post may accidentally have been a spoiler.

It is obvious that they are trying to appeal to female more with SG:U then they had with SG:1 and SG:A.

What I want to know is why did they all leave their common sense behind when they went through the gate, several times these people did some retarded shit and everyone just went along with it.

Hello remote control camera ball thingy, need to push a button inside of the busted shuttle, 1+1=2, use the camera ball to push the button…

Ya seriously, what idiots

I’ll be watching for sure. I’ve seen the BSG comparisons, but I’m not sure that will pan out unless they end up getting chased galaxy to galaxy by some new Big Bad. It does seem grittier than the other SG series, and BSG was full of grit, but I’ll give SG:U the benefit of the doubt.

On second thought, this is Ancient tech, doesn’t it require being a decedent of the Ancients or getting the Gene therapy to even use the shuttles and basically all higher functions of the technology?

I have SG:U loaded up on my DVR, I guess I will watch a few and see if they didn’t jump the shark.

SG1 huge fan and SGA decent sized fan, I am hopeful this will be good. Hell I like any sci fi (is it sy fy now?)so I’ll watch it regardless, especially with DVR technology. And x3 on using the camera ball thingy to hit the bittons you needed to hit. I mean perhaps that wasn’t possible, but they really should have explored that option and then ruled it out if it wasn’t possible instead of just hoping we would miss it or just assumed we would know it wouldn’t have worked.

I find it amazing the lack of pre-screening done on things like this. I mean don’t you screen your shows to make sure the people making it didn’t do something really stupid (by mistake) or because they are stupid and you know someone could have caught it before it went to air? I’m sure they could have spent 20 minutes with the kid trying to fly the ball in there and it not being able to manipulate the touchpad or something (since it was obvious someone had to die!). Anyways, Hope it is a good series that I can enjoy for another 10 years.
