Nobody could be a more ardent champion of simplicity in training for most people than I am. Especially for beginners. However, though squats and milk are both valuable components of a training program and diet they are neither by themselves. I just had to get that off my chest.
Amen. Training and nutrition should always go hand in hand.
and it makes a GREAT answer to stupid questions
I agree that Squats and Milk are not the end-all be-all of muscle building.
However, I believe that when most people discuss “squats and milk” they are referring to one of many programs that are designed around heavy breathing squats and pullovers coupled with a daily gallon of milk to push beyond the trainees standard nutrition.
The various programs that use the title “Squats and Milk” are actually incredibly effective programs. They do not rely solely on Squats for the training, but rather run the gamut of exercises, leaving no body part untrained.
In case you couldn’t tell, I am a big supporter of the “Squats and Milk” programs for beginners. This is not to be confuses with solely doing squats and drinking milk.

An answer like this may actually help somebody. This three word answer usually gets thrown at guys who, if they were actually susceptible to being taught, would probably stop consuming anything, but milk and do no exercises except squats. I do know about the programs with this name unlike 98% of the people who have a question answered with
SQUATS AND MILK
. Maybe it’s just a pet peeve, but it’s like something caught in my eye when I see it anymore.

lol
now. now. if you drink milk while squatting… BAD
If you squat the cow that’s solid!
Hahah, good point.
It worked for me, though.
The squats & milk program wins because:
-
It’s extremely simple
-
It’s intense
-
It teaches you to actually EAT something, goddammit
About a year ago I did the squats and milk program and I actually tried to drink a whole gallon of milk a day–which lasted about 3 days, and then I started to get terrible bloating and stomach pain. Bad idea.
HERE’S A BETTER IDEA: squats and calories
Squats and milk program is sweet.
-
Proof that full body workouts can provide kick ass mass gains.
-
Teaches you what an intense workout is all about.
-
Everything that comes from a cow will help moo get big.
Squats and milk are what the old timers back in the 1930’s did. I’ve read books that those old timers used to sip milk inbetween sets!
Can you imagine that? Yuck.
I just love milk, and I love squats, and I also love oatmeal. I live off of dairy and oatmeal. Cottage cheese is good. so is coffee, yea I used to pound about 2-3 cups of coffee pre workout to give me a lil kick!
basically squatting is one of my favorite exercises.
now are we talking about skim milk or fatty patty milk?
I think it’s a good way to get people to focus on what’s really important. Telling a new trainee to focus on compound moves, putting a lot of effort into training, and getting a surplus of calories seems sometimes to fly over their head. Telling them “squats and a gallon of milk,” while oversimplifying things a bit, is a good way to give them something a little more tangible and more easily put into practice.
Squats and beer for the advanced lifter.

I drink a protein shake mixed in milk during my workout sometimes. Never during squats though, because it will come back up.
Milk isn’t the best choice during and after a workout. The fat slows down digestion and absorption of important nutrients.
Sometimes I drink a litre of milk while lifting.
nutrition seprates the huge from the big

lol no, you still get that insulin spike like you do with skim milk, and actually whole milk is more anabolic than skim
