Teenagers are allowed to workout for free at my gym during the summer

Well another school year just started at my university, so for a couple weeks, all the weaks will be in the gym, then they will be gone in a sea of inconsistency.
TODAY:
guy doing shrugs with 135!!! on the smith machine with an ALTERNATING GRIP!!! I dont even get it, how could the traps even begin to get worked?
also, I was doing dumbell preacher curls and switching btw tricep pulldowns. So tattoo-having-ass skinny-fat Quincy Milktoast decides that he and his girlfriend are going to come over and take up both the preachers(theres only 2) to get their reps in. I come back from the drinking fountain and see them there, I was feeling generous and let them go…I wait and wait. Then I notice that he stopped and was just talking to his GF
“are you done”?
“Oh, no I still have one set left”
“Ok well would you guys mind using the same preacher bench cause I still got some sets left”
“Oh, yea, we just thought you were done cause you walked over there [for pulldowns]”
“nope, thats why I left the dumbell here”
1 legged hammer curls: grab some dumbells that are clearly too heavy for you, stand on one foot, try to curl by leaning way forward to decrease the range of motion, get congratulated by a skinny trainer.
My son has to train at LA Fitness when he is with his mother. He has experienced the squat rack curler. it’s rough when your teenage kids have to be exposed to this nonsense.

I waited a whole year since I moved. I would travel to my tried and true gym, then Time and Work became more demanding and I gave in. I walked the whole 4blocks to my neighborhood Bally’s Total Fitness.
Some of there equipment reminds me of my old Highschool’s Universal Set. And the one squat rack they have is just in the way of valued mirror space.
If there was no mirror in front of the squat rack it would be the most lonely spot in the gym.
Saw two guys at gym the other day, must have been about 14y/o the two of them. Both skinny, wearing the tightest black tank tops, colourful board shorts, one guy had an Ed Hardy looking cap and the other a gold chain.
When I say partial reps on a bench press with 135lbs, I mean PARTIAL… both of them would also be spotted on each rep and when they did their “set”, they would look around and act like they had just hit 3 plates a side for reps… I just had to stop and watch them, face palm of note!
I work at a gym and see some strange things from time to time; the strangest thing I can remember is a large group of asian men and women, seemingly the same age, come in and workout with the same exact group of MED-X machines, never touching the free-weights,cardio equipment or any other machines. All the while they wear matching tight pink collared shirts.
The funniest thing I’ve seen in the last few days is a dude trying to demount a treadmill to impress a fitness model, then eating shit and being sent 5 feet away from the treadmill when he mistimed his step.
There’s this guy with the “crazy eyes” (you know what I mean) who’s been coming in every morning for the last couple of months. He stares when I lift, but whatever. This morning he’s doing bent over rows (ok), in the smith machine (eh, we can live with that), wearing gloves (still nothing too offensive), mixed grip (WTF), and only moving the bar about 1".
New kid from last week, really mousey, 19 or so. Comes in and does bench first every day, doesn’t touch his chest, puts on too much weight. Last week I stopped and showed him the proper technique, ROM, etc. Told him to drop the weight to 95 and work his way up from there. Today I look over and he’s starting with 135, still doing the half reps, and not touching his chest. I finish a couple of sets and look over and see his legs flopping around as he’s stapled himself to the bench with 155…exactly the weight he stapled himself with last Thursday when I stopped to show him how to do it right. Glad I made such an impression.
A guy had 3 45s and a 25 on the hammer preacher curl…pretty heavy, well he did 2 reps with his buddy getting more of a great partial deadlift out of it.
Then he went for 4 45s and did a single with buddy doing most all of the lifting it seemed.
Same guy another day doing 185lb upright row, a debatable exercise as it is, doing 3 reps with the same guy spotting him. I really don’t think upright rows are where you should go for heavy assisted triples.

It’s all you!!!
Was doing deadlifts and I saw two guys doing SRCs in the rack next to me. Granted, one of them was using a decent amount of weight (135), but the other guy… not so much. Add to that the fact that he was wearing a belt the whole time.
On the bright side, one girl was doing towel chins (one in each hand, short towels) with a full ROM for reps the same day.

That’s fucking badass. I’ve only once seen a girl in my gym doing unassisted bodyweight chinups, so I just had to compliment/encourage her.

Is he getting proper counselling? That could traumatize him if you’re not careful. Definitely look into weekly therapy of some sort.

Hey now, on behalf of the girls like me that can only get a couple unassisted in then switch to assisted, we’re getting close.
It takes time ![]()
Saw a guy work up to 205 lbs today on oly grip front squats, with beautiful form, all reps ATG, and he was a little guy. Brought a tear to my eye.

That’s why I was so impressed lol, cuz it’s so rare. Just like I make a point to compliment people when I see them squatting/deadlifting with good form…trying to keep them motivated.

Weakly therapy you say?
Multiple doses of iron combined with heavy metal. It does wonders for the body.

But you see, that’s just the problem…apparently he can’t GET that PROPER therapy, since he goes to LA Fitness with his mom. Poor little bastard. tom63, what kind of terrible parent are you, letting your child be defiled by such a place? ![]()
