Squat Rack Curls 3.0

The original SRC thread got too big and locked. The second died because people kept creating random one-off threads for their gym tomfoolery.

Time for lucky number 3. New Years is coming up, so I expect a lot of good stories to be popping up soon. I’m only at a temporary gym while I’m home for the holidays, but it seemed like New Years came early for a few people…

First great one came from what looked like a boyfriend/girlfriend combo. Neither of them are too big, but I’m not judging them on that. The girl sits on a bench rack, the guy sets up to spot her, and tells her how to set up. Tells her to reach in front of her as far as she can so that her shoulders will be loose on the bench, and when she’s pressing he makes sure she’s right around the collar bone for the ENTIRETY of the press. The bar is going all over the place, in terms of one arm moving forward/backward/up/down out of phase with the other, and then the guy makes her rack the bar on the top hooks, despite the fact that when she locks out the bar she’s at least 3" below the hook… Kept my eye on them from the decline bench I was on, ready to intervene if he had her doing anything more dangerous.

Next up is another boyfriend/girlfriend combo, I think. This wasn’t him helping her lift so much as him trying to show off from what I saw. He starts curling a fixed BB, and has her punch him in the chest between reps. Then he has her put her hand on his chest and uses her arm as a guide to do half curls. Later on I saw him actually having her use some equipment. He had her doing single-arm cable tricep presses (imagine you’re doing a Tomahawk at a sports game), throwing her whole arm/body behind each rep.

And then some guy was doing walking high kicks up and down the floor with some sprints. Right in front of the main gym door and on the stretch of mat that goes from the door to the check in to the lockerooms.

Four skateboard punk types walk in with a girl. They’re all about 5’11", 145 lbs. One of them proceeds to bench 95 pounds while all the others watch. After a few sets of bench, he moves on to the incline bench, everyone still watching, still doing 95 pounds. Eventually, another guy decides to give it a try. He unracks the 95 pounds and drops it on himself immediately. The gang is laughing for a while before they pull the bar off his lap. The first guy does another set or two and they all leave.

deadlifting in the smith machine. dragging an incline bench into the squat rack while im trying to squat etc. i am dreading new years

I have to bring my camera for the guy today that put 360 on the bar, and then did some weird 1/8th of a squat thing wher he kind of let his knees just begin to bend, and quickly relocking his knees quite rapidly. I was waiting for vertebrae to come shooting out. He did about 4 or 5 sets of this, writing it down in his log book…what I wondered is…what does he even write that shit down as???

i did squat rack curls today. nobody was in the gym so i didnt feel too bad.

Guy got a lot of benches in the dumbell section and started to do sprint hurdles over them. Then he tripped over one and totalled himself. He said he was OK but he got out quick

Guy loaded up the Smith machine with plates, called eight buddies over to ‘spot’ him, and then proceeded to 1/8 rep squats. I’m next to him Deadlifting, and getting pissed because he’s sucking up all the plates for nothing, when he slams the hooks home and gives me a smirk.

I should have left it alone…

I berated him, his shitty form, and his stupid friends to the point that gym personnel felt the need to intervene.

One of those stupid friends of his became a buddy of mine after that though. Go figure…

I think this one is my favorite.

Ah yes, the SRC thread revisited. The motivation for my avatar.

Not really sure I have a tremendously funny story about SRCs, but it seems to happen every Monday when I try to use the full rack or platform. Worse yet, the platform extends back for deadlifting (which is great), but apparently that is also used for curls. Nothing like a tag-team duo to monopolize the best equipment in the gym.

lmao these are funny

Wow that would of made my day

Power curtsey.

Today some guy left the bar on the bottom pins in the power rack, beside mine, after doing some rack pulls. A while later a little old lady walks up, askes me if it’s in use and attempts to move the bar. (I give her points for trying it was 135 and there was no way she was going to pick it up safely). I stopped her and said no don’t move that, the guy who made his mess is going to clean it. I walked across the gym, grabbed the guy and told him to clean his mess up.

The lady proceeds to go about her workout of deadlifts (about 10 pounds a side, but again pretty good form for an older woman) and then strips down the bar. At the end she turns to me and asks. Am I allowed to leave it down here or do I have to put it up in the rack? Clearly she was scared if she made a mistake I would find her as well. I had to laugh and tell her she was fine since she knew to take the weights off.

I was at the gym on Christmas Eve and some emo fag came in with his ass-pirate buddy. They headed straight for the squat rack and this dumbfuck puts 25s on each end, unracks the weight and then realizes the pins are too high for him.

So rather than re-rack the bar, strip the weight and then readjust the pins, he tries to keep the bar on his back with one arm while he moves the pin with the other. He didn’t have any collars on the bar and ended up tilting the bar so far one of the plates slid off and landed on this hot chick’s foot who was deadlifting without shoes. She fucking flipped out, probably broke her foot, and started crying.

This emo fucker just looks at her, says sorry then just stands there while his buddy puts the weight back on the bar for him so he doesn’t have to re-rack it. Then he does a squat (a legit deep squat to give him some credit) and comes up pretty fast and BAM! hits the pins, staggers backward and falls down, dropping the weight off his back, all while this poor chick next to him is going ballistic. I have now seen it all.

30 something year old guy is doing power clean and doing them right, no big deal, he sits the weight down then pretends he’s a quarterback, gets under imaginary center, calls the play, rolls right and throws the game winning TD right there in the middle of the gym. I couldn’t even laugh, just watched in disbelief.

The “Y” where I go sometimes is considering implementing a “must have spotter” policy for db’s. The db’s range from 5 lb to 120 lb.

Apparently some kid was flat pressing the db’s, couldn’t handle the weight, and dropped one on his face.

Oh, yeah — HE WAS USING THE 35’s…

HAHAAHAHA GTFO

I may have posted this in the first SRC thread, but I’m not sure, so I’ll post it here. There’s this bug-eyed guy in the gym who comes in with his 13-14 year old son frequently. He wears wrist wraps, a lifting belt, and all that good stuff. The exercise he’s about to do? Pulldowns. Only not pulldowns; with the form he’s using it looks like he’s on some sort of invisible torture device designed to snap his spine in half.

Imagine doing a pulldown where you don’t actually bring your arms down to lower the bar, but instead snap your spine backwards while leaving your arms fully extended. Do several of these, spew spit and scream and turn purple.

His next exercise is standing DB curls. Again, something glorious occurs though: He curls the weight MAYBE 1/8th of the way up. He then starts frothing at the mouth, and turning purple. He starts bending backwards, without curling the weight up any farther than it already was.

He does this until his back is about 15 degrees away from being parallel to the floor, and the dumbbells are about even with his chest (because he’s bent back so far his chest is about a foot lower than where he started). As he reaches the near parallel state he lets out a scream and spews spit like The Game does before a wrestling match. That’s one rep. He does like 10.

This would be funny except for the fact that his little kid is there with him, and is imprinting on his father and starting to follow in his foot steps.

not bad just weird - a new comes in, squats light but with pretty decent form, i event compliment him on it. he then does the most atrocious deadlifts ever. had to step in.

Videos or it didn’t happen.

There’s a guy at my gym that is there every single weekday morning. Always has about 3 gym bags full of random equipment with him. There’s shit in there that I’ve never even seen before up to rings that he attaches to the ceiling and makes some sort of ridiculous attempt to utilize. This guy is about 50, short, round, with tiny arms. Makes me laugh every morning…
