Is it true that squats cause all of the skeletal muscles to grow, or is that just a myth?
where the hell did you get that?
all impact/stress exercises cause bone density to increase, but grow…

LOL.
The tissue commonly thought of as muscle is skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscles are under voluntary control, which means you consciously control them.
Yes you can gain mass in your entire body from doing compound movements like squats, deadlifts, olympic lifts, etc. Whether this is due to hormaonal response or what else, is unclear. I believe CT has stated that the hormonal (GH) effects of training are overrated.

It is true in the sense that the stress can lead to an increase in muscle density all over. Your body is adaptive. You will begin to look like you train. Someone who runs all of the time will not look like someone who lifts really heavy weight only. The release of growth hormone is a controversial topic because the release itself isn’t enough to directly stimulate muscle growth to any degree worth noting.

drink much?
don’t take it too literally. here’s the gist of the statement: squat 2 or 3 x per week for a year, and you’ll make some serious gains all over. curl instead of squat and you might get some bigger biceps.
Thx for answering my question. when doing squat does you body creates creatine? people tell me it does
my eye sight must be on the wayne.
sheesh, must be all that wanking.
I think i am getting a reputation. did you see what time it was posted…

Squat 3 times a week and you’d be overtraining…that’s just my opinion, but I think squatting should be limited to 1 time per week. If you go heavy enough and push yourself hard enough 1X per week is more than enough to get all the benefits of squatting, of which there are many more than any other compound lift, without overtraining.
Skeletal MUSCLE Miniross. Try reading (and thinking) before you post.
And if you mean ‘is it true that squats will cause many muscles on my body to grow?’ then yes, it’s true. Squats put a lot of stress on your whole body musculature. Moreso the further down you squat.
I don’t think it works every single muscle though, i’m sure there’s one or two muscles having a snooze in there somewhere, but since it does work so many, it’s a very good adddition to your program and you will see better results from including the squat than not.

I don’t agree. I think a beginner would be better off not pushing that hard each session, but squatting at least 2x a week.
Articles by Chad Waterbury (More Can Be Better, VOS Program, and Branding Iron from 01/30/04) and CS Sloan (Frequent and Furious) explain in detail all the benefits of training same exercise/body part more often.
Also, Charles Staley wrote about Russian peaking program which involves squatting 3x a week (From Russia With Love), and his Periodization That Works also has info on frequent lifting.
For a beginner, the easiest way to start doing squats more often would be something along the lines of Bill Starr’s heavy/medium/light setup. Like this:
Monday
work up to 1x5 RM (in 5-6 sets)
Wednesday
2x5 at 80% of Monday’s weight
(warm up with 2-3x5)
Friday
2x5 at 90% of Monday’s weight
(warm up with 2-3x5)

Yes it does. Deadlifts produce Glutamine. Curls produce HMB. Leg presses produce medicinal marijuana.

I must be doing something wrong… I don’t get the buzz; I just get the munchies. Do I need to work on my form?

You must be doing to much leg press work then! Get on the smith machine and do all your leg work there, it seems to produce identical results to hydroxycut
note to self…must read thread, think, read again, rethink, post.
