Squat DOMS

Is anyone else consistently sore after doing squats? Like every single time? Regardless of whether I go high weight or reps, I’m clutching hand rails and dropping onto the toilet seat the next day. Any other day of 5/3/1 and I’m fine, but squat day consistently brings the pain. Anybody else?

ONLY IF YOU DO THEM CORRECTLY.

I used to get sore like that when I did leg day only once a week. I train them every 5 days now and very little DOMS. If you are a beginner and making lots of progress, you are going to feel sore just about every leg workout. Once the gap between str increases narrows, You won’t feel as much DOMS. In several months you are going to wish you were sore and will spend time trying to figure out why you are not even after a brutal workout. embrace the pain while you can!

When I did 5/3/1 my legs fucking killed for 3 days after every single squat session. Now that I am doing Sheiko and squatting twice and deadlifting once a week, I am barely ever sore.

I’d still consider myself a beginner, especially in the squat department. I will commence embracing the pain!

When you do squats often, you do not get that much soreness. Don’t go heavy all the time and do them at least 3 times a week, and you will experience less soreness.

The level of soreness was never an indication of how productive a workout was strength or muscle-building wise. If you want soreness all the time (just to have the feeling), then swith everything up all the time, exercises, tempo etc… But there is no point really. To get strong at the squat, you need to squat a lot.

Stretch and foam roll

I mostly get it when I start a new cycle, dropping the weight and upping the volume. Then it’s a free fall to the toilet seat for a while.

Already doin’ it (though I should be doing more). Not really complaining about the soreness, just making sure that I’m not doing anything wrong in the weight room to be inviting this kind of relentless DOMS.

also, dont take more than a week away from squatting or when u come back, it will hurt to walk for a good five days.

I concur. I recently starting using PVC pipe for a roller when the foam one didn’t cut it anymore. Wow… I’m doing 5/3/1 also and using the BBB for squats and I definitely get sore but it’s getting better the further down the road I get with BBB.

try walking up and down a hill for 10 minutes. or do a bunch of sets with just the bar. flushing the blood the next day can help.

I’m always sore in my glutes after squatting but not necessarily in my quads. Glutes will be sore probably 3 days after squatting or deadlifting. I guess they’re just weaker than my quads.

My friend, your relief is temporary. Wait until the next cycle! Just when I think its about to get better, you pile on more weight and more DOMS.

I got really bad DOMS from squats until I started doing squats 2-4 times a week. I get a little sore sometimes now, but nothing too bad. Deadlifts still kill me though…

I too get DOMS from squats every week. I only squat once a week though which may be part of the reason judging by the previous posts here. Now that I am doing 5/3/1 I don’t get sore on the deload week and I have ordered a foam roller to try to help with the other days. Someone else already mentioned the foam roller so I hope that it will help some.

Doing box squats on deadlift days with 5/3/1 has helped with getting really sore on squat day. I usually do a good morning variation of squat day. Seems to be working for me.
