Split

Hey guys i really wanna be able to do a split. Van Damme style. Im not even close now. Can somebody tell me some things i can do? Im very flexible everywhere else on my body except when doing splits. thanxxx

These things are hard to beat, but obviously pricey. I got my split by using something similar (I made it myself out of PVC and foam). Considering that you cheer, I assume you’re already fairly flexible, and versed in stretching, so you know to take it slow and be careful. Good luck.

Get Pavel Tsatsouline’s “Beyond Stretching”. Some of his ideas are a little out there but otherwise it’s a great book. There’s a section in it that talks specifically about the type of split you want to do.

Pavel has a decent program. It will get you started anyway. Relax into stretch. I feel he is a bit off on some of his premises but the overall stretching routine will get you started.

Get Pavel Tsatsouline’s book
“Relax into Stretch”
either from dragondoor or amazon.

Take two folding chairs and place one foot on each. Slowly slide one chair out with your leg and that will allow you to control the stretch. You might want to put another chair in front of you so you have something to balance yourself with.
