I’m adding a speed drill day into my current schedule and I’m kind of at a loss right now on what type of solo drills I could do to increase speed and agility. I’m basically using the template from WS4SB3 and they give the combine drills as an example or 10/20/40 yard sprints.
Is there anything sport specific for wrestling I could do on my own without a partner to increase my speed and agility that will have a similar effect such as the examples given?
Take a look at the actions you might do in a match involvng things like change of direction and reactions and try and make drills out of that. Keep the quality high and with full recoveries. Other things could be something like the 5-10-5 drill or a lane agility drills from the NFL and NBA combines respectively.
Also, improved agility comes with improved elasticity. Things like ankle jumps, depth/drop jumps, lateral hops etc. will all improve your reactive strength and efficiency of movement (elasticity). And don’t be afraid to get creative with your own agility/acceleration drills. Good luck.
