Can anybody give me some good examples of some speed and agility drills. Everybody who is anybody in sports and athletic training says that speed and agility training is vital, but I have not really seen any examples of actual speed and agility drills.
Well, I get home after a busy 48 hours of meetings and look at this post. - Speed and agility is an extremely complex area that goes beyond simple verbal explanation. I have written substantially about this but I dont want to use this as a advertising medium. To enhance speed and flexibility you first need to address the goals of your TOTAL training program and whether they are congruent with your goals in the weight-room. This weeks article that I wrote on Renegade Training is an example of a strength program that is built to develop agility & speed. Ask more questions and I will be pleased to discuss. In faith, Coach Davies
Coach, in your article this week you mentioned that the training program is divided into 2 sections with Section A dealing with flexibility, agility and speed and Section B dealing with strength training. If you are not going to write another article for t-mag dealing with Section A training can you give examples of some of the things you do in this section. If you do intend on writing an article specifically dealing with the speed, agility and flexibility training, when can we expect to see it on t-mag ?
P.S. I am sorry for sounding somewhat demanding with respect to a second article but like so many others on this forum that read your posts, I can’t seem to get enough info from you to satisfy my somewhat unquenchable thirst for training knowledge.
Coach Davies is selling a training program on Infinityfitness.com and I purchased it earlier this week. The program is awesome, it includes
extensive agility work, sprinting programs and weight training. Each day is different and I plan to use the 8 week program all the way up to my Football pre season camp. So far so great, I will keep you all posted on my progress. Everyone in the Maryland area should look out, nothing can stop me now.
Rob-you know, you’re right - much to the dismay of many athletes who believe the game is played on a Bench Press, this is a game of speed and agility. And there is such little information of agility training that is available. I have found the key to improving these areas is as I noted in the article, like a wheel in which every spoke needs to be developed in a proper manner. Tell me about what you are doing and I will be happy to discuss our flexibility, ladders, cone drills, dot drills, rope work, hip mobility and power-speed. As far as the article goes, we have it in the works and I will keep you informed. Please ask & I will be assist. In faith, Coach Davies
Bill - nice to hear from. Thank you for your kind words. I know you’re going on that “pathway” now - just remember to re-dedicate yourself and you’ll be there. As one of “my renegade’s”, make sure you do hesitate in asking the old coach questions, whether it be about your training or supplements. In faith, Coach Davies
Try doing the Mach drills. They are designed to improve running form. We will have an article on them soon. Also work on the dorsi-flexion of your ankle (keeping your toes up on the foot strike). Hit your hamstrings and abs hard. The GPP helps also, speed endurance also plays a factor.
