Sorness...

what is it a sign of? a “good workout”? bad recovery? something compeltely differenet?

All of the above. It’s really difficult to diagnose soreness over the internet when no details are given.

Try turning your head and coughing.

And don’t forget to have someone holding your potatos at the same time.

Since you posted in the beginners forum I’ll assume you are one. When you first start lifting you can expect to be sore after most workouts. After you build up a bit your body acclimates to the stress and you have to push yourself more to get sore from a workout. I’m talking about DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). If you are experiencing more than a dull ache and tightness in the muscle groups you worked a day (or two) before then you may have other problems.

If you stay very sore for more than a couple days you may not be eating or sleeping/resting enough or both.

If you’re still a beginner it’s a sign that you’re working out with adequate intensity. This is assuming, of course, that you have a soreness in the muscle as opposed to actual pain.

If you’re intermediate or above, it may be an indicator that you need to introduce some extra ‘feeder’ workouts, band traction exercises or horse liniment to your arsenal.
