This link will tell you everything you need to know about your questions. It regards recovery(soreness) workouts and rules of thumb(lifting advice) and supplements
It’s normal to get sore after a new type of workout that your muscles aren’t used to, and it’s also very individual.
You shouldn’t judge your workouts based on soreness though, meaning that you might still be able to do the same body part again when it’s still sore.
Judge based on your progress. If you continue to have to decrease the weight, or feel like you’re getting the same reps, but the reps aren’t as good quality, try resting more, or eating more/better, or sleeping longer, etc.
I’ve been sore continuously for as long as 2 1/2 weeks before with a new routine, and continued to make good progress with it.
I’ve also had some body parts that would almost never get sore, and some that would almost always get sore.
Don’t worry about supplements until you’re sure (or pretty sure) that your diet is on point, and you’re getting enough rest.
Protein powder is usually a good idea because it’s difficult to get all the protein you need from whole foods BUT IT’S NOT IMPOSSIBLE, especially if you’re not very big yet.
Keep your workouts intense, and monitor your progress, and adjust as you go to find what works best for you.
Trial and error is still the best way to figure out what you, personally, should be doing.
Good luck.
Everyone else: try to remember that this IS the beginner’s forum, so I think we should go easier on those who actually know to post here with beginner questions.
soreness is generally a good thing, but it is much more intense when your starting out. The level of soreness should go away with time. As far as supplements and nutrition goes look around for articles on this site, theres plenty of philosophies. Find one you like and go to town! Good luck.
