Snatch Grip Deadlifts

Cool. Sounds like I am not a fool for using the 25’s. They dont have a box at the gym I go to, but they have plenty of 25’s near the squat rack (LOL). I am the only person I have seen do deadlifts, and one of a handful of people I have seen doing squats.

Yep you got it man, if you don’t have a box use 25’s. That’s what I do when I am training somewhere where a platform is unavailable.

Since you have your ego under control, and you’re willing to use less perceived weight, I think you might consider using 20’s, for Pendlay Rows. That is if you Pendlay. I do so, and the extra ROM is nice.

anyone try single limb snatch grip deadlifts? Youch on youch

Actually, that sounds pretty impossible.

Assuming you’re not pulling our collective leg…how the heck can you pull those off?

EDIT: Other than only one side of the bar staying on tht ground, that is.

Perhaps legs are also limbs, so you could do single legged snatch grip DLs.

No, the increased ROM is better for your legs.

I’m humbled…

After reading Poliquins article, I tried them (Snatch Grip Deadlifts on a platform…actually, on 2-45lb plates each foot).

All I can say is that I had to take about 1/2 the weight off from my regular Deadlift and do 1/2 weight.

And I needed to use straps, too.

If you’ve not tried them…do it…if you can eat humble pie that is.

I have recently added deads from a 3" platform and my weights went down drastically, but they are coming back up. I was having problems at the bottom of my lift, and Phill recommended them. My max DL has gone up by 40lbs in the past 5 or 6 weeks just by training deeper than usual.

I haven’t tried the snatch grip yet, but I get a cheat meal on Saturday, so it sounds like a good day for some humble pie. No straps though. If I can’t pick it up with my bare hands, I have no use for it.[/quote]

Aww crap. I pussed out and did regular deads from the floor today. No platform, no snatch grip. So much for the humble pie.

PR’ed my 3RM deadlift by 10 lbs AND hit a set of 6 reps. I think the box is helping.

single lower limb, snatch grip on bar.

Tried them today from a 4" platform. First time ever.

Had to drop my weights way down and my pinkies hurt but I think I am going to do them for the next few weeks in place of conventional deads.

Because I was doing a lower weight they didn’t seem as tiring when I was doing them but I am starting to feel it now.

Going to add snatch grip deadlifts to my routine and have a few questions.

What is the difference between snatch grip and regular deadlifts in terms of muscles workerd?
How much less weight should you use during snatch grip vs. regular deadlifts?

I guess I’m an exception in that I don’t lose that much weight when I do SG deads compared to regular deads. I’ve been incorporating them into workout now (off and on) since I read Thibs’ “deadlifting for stubby guys” article (I think that’s what it’s called) about 4 months ago. I find that my upper lats (just below my armpits) get really sore when I do snatch grip deads.

Wait until tomorrow or the day after.
