Sloh's 3 Year Offseason - 125 to 200lbs

A couple foot long double oven roasted chicken breast sandwiches a day from subway because it was convenient and I was on campus so much, a lot of brown rice with chicken or beef, a lot of pasta with chicken or beef, ground beef with brown rice.

I ate AAALLLOOOOTT of carbs to get these calories down, an amount that most people would think would get someone fat. I tried the whole protein+carb in the morning and afternoon and switching to protein+fat later on in the nighttime but it was impossible for me to get the calories down that way. I was eating a huge serving of carbs with protein right before I slept. It’s so easy to get the calories in when you’re not afraid of carbs. I felt that as long as I wasn’t absurdly overshooting my calorie intake for the day and I was training hard, the food would go in the right places. Although the carbs were high, I wasn’t eating complete crap.

My whole thing is this…if you’re trying to grow, your #1 priority should be getting the calories down. When you find that you are able to do that, then worry about eating clean. If your calories don’t add up at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how strict you are with your diet and how clean you eat…progress will come to a halt. Yeah, you may think you are hardcore eating so clean, but it’s the results we are after here.

So you counted calories? Did you have a general idea? Or did you log it all?

It was all rough estimates and I did have a general idea in my head. I didn’t really log anything on my computer or write anything down. I ate pretty much the same thing everyday, so it was easy for me to add quantities here and there.

Oh, yes…how did I forget the eggs. When I was regularly eating eggs, it was about 1-2 dozen whole eggs per day. I can’t stomach solid protein sources in the morning such as chicken or beef. My favorite breakfast to this day is 6-8 whole scrambled eggs with soy sauce poured over and 5-6 slices of ezekiel bread with jam.

Was this all college food or did your parents buy it? Luckily I can eat as much as I want at college but if I ate that much at home they’d throw me out lol. Well actually, because of how much I’d eat in the past, I was actually given a spending limit this summer between semesters, which ended up being just enough. Funny thing is I was cutting and calories got pretty damn low, but it’s a ton of protein and other things that generally cost considerably more than say pasta or oatmeal.

Good post, sloh. Most of these bigger guys love to act like they always stayed lean…after they got big.
I hear ya big guy. Once I lean out I’m going to LIE my ass off about it. Shit, I will have EVERYONE believing I came out of the chute that way.

I will never admit I was as heavy as 285…do you hear me?! NEVER!!! 10 % bodyfat all the way through…

And you had better god-damned well not tell anyone the truth? Got me?!

Lol…That was hard to say with a straight face. ; )

Sloh awesome progress dude! I’m aiming for 200lbs by the end of October, my mate (RippedRooster) and myself are seeting goals for gaining weight. A mix of both. I had access to a dining hall the first two years of college, but the selection wasn’t too great there. I stuffed down many turkey sandwiches loaded with deli meat a day, always asking for extra meat on my sandwiches. It wasn’t ideal, but it was better that nothing.

Thanks! Where do you train at? I’d love to see Nasser train.
I train at the Mira Mesa/Miramar 24hr. Oh and I’ve never really seen Nasser train. I just seem to run into him from time to time. Not sure if it’s true or not but I’ve heard he works out at the La Mesa 24 from time to time.

Around two weeks ago at around 173 lbs and about 11 weeks out. Skip and I decided to hold off on the Border States and shoot for the Excalibur on December 4th. There just wasn’t enough time to get lean enough for the Border States. I saw last year’s lineup for the lightweight class there and it looks very competitive. I’ll just keep my nose to the grindstone and try my best.

173 again. I’ll start working on my posing with Derik at around 6-8 weeks out.

Well… Skip will get you shredded !!!

He always does… lol

keep it up man, once you lose a bit more fat i think your back will look a lot bigger!

Good stuff.
Side chest looks awesome - but your back db isn’t on par with that, yet.

You being a man of action will get that ironed out, though.

Shoulders are looking good man, side chest as well. Be decent to see once the posing has gone through the works, some different shots. But I hope the comp goes great and this experiance has a positve impact on yourself as a person but also on the iron. Good luck

Huge progress, sloh. Keep it going!
