Single-Leg or Conventional Press?

I’ve been doing upper/lower body splits for a while, and my strength gains have been pretty good. On deadlift days, I normally include a 3x12 single-leg press component to my training session. Recently, I switched over to a new program which calls for a conventional leg press instead.

I know a lot of guys have built big legs using the leg press, but I really enjoyed the single and gained a fair amount of strength with it (from 90 to 160 lbs./leg in about 5 weeks); comparatively, my regular lp is much weaker. Does anyone have a recommendation for which would be a better choice for continuing to develop strength?

Squats would probably work if you can do them. Poliquin addressed squats vs leg press for strength today and said that he preferred squats to leg press for strength

How long have you been doing the single legs? A change in program can lead to gains, not even taking into consideration the fact that you could use more weight.

Exactly right about squatting as said above. Is there a reason why you can’t squat?

No, I still squat, but my femurs are pretty long, so I typically do front squats instead of back - which have also gone well. The single-leg presses are just kind of a pet exercise (I did them for about five weeks, and switched to conventional the past two.)
