Single Digit Body Fat %

it is more prestigious in my mind to be an ATHLETE, which doesn’t entail having 30% BF and having super huge lifts. Instead being STRONG, RIPPED, AGILE, and QUICK.
Just wanted to point out that athletic ability and body composition are very loosely correlated. The world record holders of Clean and Jerk (Leonid Taranenko) and Snatch (Antonio Krastev) were both fat, yet incredibly strong, agile, and quick.

If you believe it to be more prestigious to be an athlete, you should post in the forum of your respective athletic event, there are many here at T-Nation. If you are not Strength or Combat Athlete, then you should petition the mods to have a forum of your respective athletic event.

Good Luck!

Well this is in the bodybuilding forum…so the generally accepted goal is to get bigger.
Yea and being lean is obsolete and no longer accepted in bodybuilding !
Who said that? Oh, right…no one.

This is a bodybuilding forum. In an effort to keep this forum on the topic of bodybuilding and related subjects, if posters continue to post as if this is NOT the bodybuilding forum they will begin to have their posts deleted or moved to other forums on the website.

The goal here is not to be tiny yet ripped…which is the implication when a posteer logs in and writes:

You can continue to debate what “huge” means, but implying that muscle size is not needed would mean you are in the wrong forum.
Yea and just like the guys who are concerned about losing their six pack we have guys on the other end of the spectrum who just go by the the numbers on the scale neglecting everything else.

Every time someone mentions being lean or wanting abs this forum is in an uproar, yet we have individuals bulking up to become fat asses and they get a pat on the back and complemented for making progress.

I would think the general accepted goal in the bodybuilding building forum would be to maximize muscle, not all about being “huge”

I would much rather be a lean 190 than a marsh mellow 250
Who is trying to be a “marshmellow”? Worrying about being super lean before any mass is built is NOT bodybuilding. NO one gives a shit if you choose to stay around 190lbs. Clueless comments about how easy is it is to remain at single digits from people who have never gained much size is helping this forum stay on topic?

I am a moderator of this forum now. I am just letting it be known publicly that this type of debate is no longer going to be tolerated.

If you don’t want to gain any muscle mass, fine. Take it to the conditioning forum, the strength forum or the Get a Life forum.

Not one person in this thread is condoning becoming obese.
Dule wrote:
Oh ok, because bodybuilding is ALL about being huge (sarcasm intended). Yes, being size is an important aspect of it, but not the only. Aesthetics is also a crucial factor in bodybuilding and this thread, is dedicated to it. So THAT is why we are posting about body fat and “being ripped”.

Oh and P.S. i have NO idea how you managed to derive that an implication of what i posted earlier, is that “the goal is to be tiny yet ripped”. Its called - reading things in context, you should try it some time!
It was read in context. How much muscle have you gained?

What are your current stats?

I would like to know your progress if you have found a way to gain large amounts of muscle yet find it EASY to remain in single digits for body fat at all times.

I actually would rather be a desert harsh but that’s just me.

You’ve been here since 2006 and you really believe that?

Let me guess…you are just FREAKING HUGE!
Both Waterbury and John Bernardi have said that It is this easy (both in articles and in the forums). Waterbury put it like this, if I told you to eat green vegetables and chicken breasts all month every meal. You wouldn’t see great results, but if I followed you around and made you do it, you would be amazed with the results. His point, it isn’t the system, it is the lack of dedication.

Prof X, PUTTIN THE HAMMA DOWN!

The point I believe everyone is in an “Uproar” about is fact that trying to maintain a 5-6% body fat all year is not going to translate to the most amount of muscle you could have possibly gained during that time. And as this is a bodybuilding forum, most people carry the goal of trying to make the most of their workouts.

Sure some people go overboard on the broad term “Bulk”, but others do it perfectly.

I’m kind of wondering what people here think single digit bf looks like. To me 10% is damn lean already with full abs showing, and most people walking around that you would consider naturally lean are more around 15%.

Am I wrong in these thoughts? I’ve always thought <10% to be getting into contest territory and very difficult to maintain any sort of lbm with.

What…and being condescending to others about not being HUGE is in a thread titled “Single Digit Body Fat %” is being on topic, is it?

You would be correct. Some guy weighing 250lbs at around or under 15% body fat would look VERY lean because he is carrying enough size so that his muscles dominate his level of body fat. Someone actually under 10% would look very close to contest ready in person at that size.

That would be why we know those claiming how easy it is are likely not very developed.

Whoa Kim Jung il , now that you’re a moderator certain discussions are off limit ? The same individual who have stated on countless occasions that this is a public forum and anyone who gets offended by certain statements should stay out… is now advocating the removal of certain post with opinions different than his ?.. Is this an accurate assessment ?

This is a bodybuilding forum. Once again, stay on the topic of this forum.

One thing we know for sure is that trying to stay near contest level of body fat is NOT conducive to gaining muscle mass long term AT ALL.

So, tell me, how is acting like this is not the case staying on the topic of bodybuilding?

Actually, I think there has been much less bullshit lately.

Yet you seem to have a problem with the forum staying on topic.

Ok this may be the bodybuilding forum but the topic of THIS THREAD is single digit body fat %… so if you don’t want individuals to discuss the thread at hand because it doesn’t coincide with this forum… Then remove the thread mr. moderator.

this is why i hardly read this shitty rag forum anymore.

if you are perpetually sub 10% bf, especially the 5-6% range you ARE NOT HOST TO AN ANABOLIC ENVIRONMENT. point two, most folks wouldn’t know 5-6%bf if it reached out and kicked them in the dick.

“i’m like 8% bf…bullshit you are 15%+ dickhead.”

chiming in also unless you’re very short ripped (constant shape), 170 with the abs isn’t impressive, as X said this is a BB forum.

if you are 5’10 + and sub 200lbs you are a women.

i started at 145lbs too, so i was formerly a lady. Getting to 200 lean is easy…eat a lot, lift a lot for a few yrs. w/ my genetics i’ve added 75+lbs and maintained the ability to not get a stomach 3-4 yrs at 20+ lbs a yr.

Silly 2010er for bumping this old thread with his first post. Haha.

oh shit theres a new sheriff in town!

.greg.

I think some people on this forum are negelecting what this thread was intended for…

What drives a person to maintain single digit bodyfat. Regardless of what the OP wanted, now their is an uproar as to who is correct and who is not. Some people believe they’re intellectually superior and their methods is the only one that matters.

Who the F%ck cares? Bodybuilding in it’s simplest form is to put on as much size as you can. To compete you need to be the biggest and most aesthetically looking. This forum is entitled BODYBUILDING, let it be what it’s intended to be.

Go argue your worthless points in another forum…
