It makes us stronger

Ah! I get it now. I’m already the Optimum, so I can’t relate with mortals that still have room to improve; my worldview just won’t allow it.

I actually do think all the sandbag stuff you goofballs do is pretty cool; I just haven’t taken that plunge to actually go get one.

dont they have any or even heavy slam balls at your gym ?

They have the big leather medicine balls. I think they’re like 30#.

I also have a push sled and a trap bar (carries) and a track. I know I should use all of these. What do I do instead? Watch Netflix on the elliptical.

Hero, away!

Monday 5th Dec - volume week 4

Deadlift
Bar x 10
70 x 5
110 x 3
140 x 2
160 x 2
Belt on
180 x 1. Ooh that was slow
190 x 0 failed 4 inches off the floor, pulled and pulled but it just stuck hard.
160 x max (kept belt on for this set) - 4 slow hard reps
Back was definitely fatigued from the sandbag work at the weekend. Massive lower back pump after. Pissed at the performance but happy with the effort

Leg press
200 5
160 8
120 9
80 10
40 12
Holy Fk - deadlift was a let down but made up for it by adding 40kg to the leg press and doing more reps than last week. Fk you old body.

Dumbell bench
40 x max x 4 sets - 12, 11, 8, 10
SS
Bench supported row
30 x max x 4 sets - 12, 10, 10, 11
Sweating hard and feeling the burn. I’m sure the 300 push ups I did yesterday didn’t make these easier.

Lat pull downs
54.5 x 12 x 3 sets

Tough tough tough session. Huge pump all round. If the purpose of a volume block is to force the body to adapt then this workout fit the bill for sure

Nice gym!
Yeah remember on the sandbag picks, they sound like a light deadlift. But in reality its like a deficit deadlift from so high up the “bar” is below your toes. And out in front of your body. So no surprise it tends to ruin your deadlift day.
Conversely i expected it to nake heavy deadlifts feel light… Haven’t gotten it to work that way yet haha.

The muscle soreness is starting to build now. Legs, lower back and upper body all sore today. Going to do some burpees later to get the blood moving. 2 more weeks of volume and then it is Xmas and then a short vacation. I will start next year with a new strength block and try to be even more awesome.

So pretty! Looks like they even have the dead squat bar that used to get sold here.

which one is that ? I have no idea what most of these are.

Great old content here

Thanks I will have a read of that. Yes it is the pretty candy red one.

It’s funny: as much as I can’t training, I LOVE all the equipment. I could see myself having a museum/showroom of old lifting gear. It’s just so fascinating.

That’s why I am loving this new gym. In between sets I walk around and just look at bar and machines and grip stuff etc. etc. There is so much stuff and this is only a tip of the iceberg when you consider all the equipment made and used over the last 100 years. And all of it designed to achieve or work towards the similar goal of being stronger.

Ok took my medicine and did my burpees. 100 burpees, first 60 were slow and steady and unbroken then finished off with 2 lots of 20. Sore and didn’t want to do these but actually performed ok. Really goes to show that we can all do more than we are or than we feel like doing.
