Someone was talking about pushups the other day - 20 a minute…every minute…for a hour
Maybe @T3hPwnisher posted?
My first bar was a 4 ft section of galvanized pipe from a furniture clamp and some concrete vinyl weights. It progressed from there. I have enough extra crap out there I could fix up a fairly decent second gym for somebody…lol
Yeah it was definitely him, because he’s insane. I am building my way up to attempting that insanity
Ha last year I decided I was gonna do the 50 burpees a day challenge for 30 days…just for shits…I did it but I hate burpees…still not sure why I did it. You could do some manly shit like dragging or pushing a homemade sled too. Load it with rocks or something
Cardio is like one of the first rules of Zombieland.
Don’t out my internet identity
Kinda checking in. I’ve been doing the band workouts from the Meadows videos. Tomorrow I’ll do the agile 8 stuff and push the car around a lot.
I’ve seen folks saying they understand the urgency in the stats. I don’t see it. I’m open to being wrong. If anyone can show me how, please do. I’d like to believe in this response.
Yeah, closing the gym sucks. However, there is historical evidence that suggests social distancing helps lower strain on hospitals and total deaths. During the 1918 flu pandemic, cities that used strict social distancing (closed restaurants, bars, churches, large gatherings, ect.) EARLY had much lower death rates than cities that did not (see the article below). That pandemic was a century ago, the 1918 flu was more deadly, and we have better medicine now. However, it still is the closest comparison we have to the coronavirus outbreak. I’m just going to view home workouts as a new training stimulus; my gym workouts were getting a bit stale prior to the shutdown.
I’m more talking about choosing a global recession.
I totally respect your points, and I think you’re even saying it in your post, but I don’t think 1918 is a close analog.
Social distancing does slow spread, which is not the same as limiting it or mitigating mortality. In this case, we have to think the influx of patients is going to cripple our healthcare system for this to be an effective move (and even then, I’m not sure the numbers justify it being the right move), and the projections just aren’t there. Nor are the recent examples necessarily showing a reduction in total strain by implementing real restrictions, but I recognize there are too many variables there to say.
In any case, I really do appreciate you jumping in and leaving these thoughts. I want this to be the right move, and no matter what I appreciate these human-to-human discussions.
In other news, our friends wanted their old play set out of their yard and my kids wanted it, so I spent the day doing that. I also finally found the weights I suggested to @flappinit at a Dick’s an hour away, so I got that too.
Tomorrow I will erect the playhouse and do front squats and lunges!
No worries, I thought you were asking about the biological basis for the lockdown. That’s my field, so I jumped in. A century old plague isn’t a perfect comparison, but we can learn something from it. Limiting the spread is the main goal for social distancing and shutting down businesses. It’s annoying and financially devastating. However, I will leave the economic debates to someone more qualified.
BTW; I used the pandemic as an excuse to finally buy a bench from Rogue.
And I thank you! Sincerely
And stimulated the economy. That’s a personal win and altruism!
My son and I got haircuts yesterday. It turned out to be their last day open for a bit. I contemplated staying home and hiding but then I thought that if they were open then they could use my money.
I also chose to be a “sustaining member” of my gym (YMCA). They froze our memberships but told us we could help them help the community by continuing to pay our membership fees.
That’s good stuff man.
I really do think supporting local businesses and branches, if you can, is a good use of our income right now for those of us that get to keep it. The best world is these folks can survive this lean time and get back to work.
Apparently there are blood shortages, so I was able to donate that. We frequently donate old clothes and toys, but it was great to see the long line to do so this last week (it’s a trunk drop-off, don’t worry: the line was safe). There’s also been major community efforts to feed the kids that otherwise won’t eat because school is out (which is a sad story itself).
However this comes out - I’ve been extremely happy to see everyone come together.
Got the play set 90% up before it started raining.
We just got our “stay home” order until April 6, which really isn’t a big deal. Everyone seems to be on the same page, so I’m bought in.
Home workout (finally - playset took longer and more out of me than I anticipated) with my Dick’s barbell.
I have been seeing full body every day stuff on YouTube, so I figured I’d give that a try while I don’t have a lot of ideas.

I have to clean the first rep and then get it back to the floor without a crazy drop on the last (and usually a finger or two has dropped by then, so the catch is iffy). I paused these to try to get some leg burn, but wasn’t real strict. I’ll start counting out long eccentrics and real pauses next time.

After I sold the dick’s barbell (I had ordered another with a 700# capacity) I watched this video where a guy, not gently, works his way up to a single at 625 with the same bar from the weight set. It very lightly bends by mid-500s I think. But the durability of the bar is definitely there for some big numbers. He does note that the bar has bad knurling and isn’t great, but it’s obviously rated a couple hundred pounds lower than it’s actual capacity. Plus, there is the capacity for the bar to snap and not bend in a freak accident, so I’m sure they’re just covering their asses.
Thanks!
It should definitely be good enough for me for now. I only have the plates it came with anyway. For some exercises I might add bands around it (RDLs, for instance), but I’m just feeling some stuff out for the weeks I’m home.
I am hoping this becomes an opportunity for me to scale down a little and see what are “needs” vs just stuff I do in the gym.
Mine didn’t break but it definitely wasn’t right after a 275 power clean…or it might have been a clean pull.
