@barley1@simo74@T3hPwnisher you gents are all over it! I absolutely agree across the board. I also think it can still even fit within “keeping the goal the goal;” sometimes the goal really is to take a step back, or to just keep training, or to heal up some injuries, or build a different capacity, or whatever.
@davemccright I’ve done the whole back block before. I like the high frequency blocks, but they’re tough for me when I’m traveling. I also simply don’t recover as well, anymore, likely more from lifestyle than anything, but it’s an impact. I find a marked drop in performance on my third consecutive training day; the high frequency tends to be 5-6 days a week, so it’s tougher to fit. I do still like doing it, though… so who knows what I’ll do in the future.
I’m certainly in screw around mode. Yesterday I went to the gym and started warming up the back work… and 135 felt awfully heavy. Third consecutive training day, so go figure. So I did half an hour on the bike, then some jumps, throws and abs.
My son had an absolutely brutal day yesterday. Just completely overwhelmed, in tears, unhappy. A lot of it stemmed from being the slowest kid on his “track” (it’s really like a run group) team. He’d been running on his own a little (which I was really proud to see), and thought he would have improved. He was just totally dejected. I was glad to be home and we spent a bunch of time together. Today he wanted to “train” with me, so long as we don’t go to the gym. So I’m about to go outside and jump and throw a med ball with him and see if he likes any of it… just trying to get him to build some confidence in himself.
Diet-wise, so far I’ve had one cube of watermelon as my non-carnivore introduction. I just haven’t really felt like adding anything back yet. I still will as I ramp training back up harder, but the scale is going down consistently and I think that has me pretty motivated - big win here!
@simo74 Thank you, sir. As I know you know, I have no idea what I’m doing. I just try my best.
The little training session went well! He is feeling good and hanging out relaxed.
@EmilyQ Thanks! I think the traveling is likely as hard on you at home as it is us going. I find I do better when I actually don’t try to plan around it, and just take it as it comes.
I very much understand this statement. For me I also nearly always feel like I am failing miserably. It doesn’t stop me trying but positive feedback loop is pretty rare.
And no ill effects! I’m thinking mushrooms are on the good list.
It really has been a great reset. I basically eliminated snacking and empty calories without having to think about it.
I really appreciate that, but I doubt I’m doing any of the right things most the time. If I were, he’d probably just be chugging along more comfortably in general. We all just keep trying though.
This is an unfair standard to hold yourself to man. We all struggle in our own way: whose to say that his struggles won’t be far worse? Having a father who genuinely cares is a gift that SO many children go without. The “right” thing here is acting out of love: it doesn’t matter what the actual verb ends up being.
That elimination of snacking is definitely one of the biggest things. And the mushrooms check out: they really are their own thing. They don’t fall under the animal OR vegetable kingdom: they are on their own in the kingdom of fungi. @SkyzykS definitely has some hot tips on that topic.
Dudes! @T3hPwnisher@QuadQueen@EmilyQ@simo74@FlatsFarmer because I know you’re all keeping an eye on me (maybe you have a pool on my expiration date?): I just had my labs review with the doc and they were nearly perfect.
BP was 122/70 - excellent number for me!
Creatine was a tiny, tiny bit high, but it’s always high for me, and the rest of my kidney panel was terrific. eGFR looked good and no concerns at all.
LDL was high normal, but total was good, HDL was great, VLDL was good, so there were 0 concerns.
All other cardiac and hematologic markers were easily in the normal ranges - this has been a work in progress for me.
This was, by far, my cleanest bill of health since the dark shutdown times. I’m pretty pumped. Seems like I’m safe to keep doing what I’m doing!
I think regular cardio (and it’s mostly walking with a 40# backpack), drinking a ton of water, and not eating processed foods have been the variables.
I wanted to share because this was a big one for me.
Dude, that’s outstanding news! Those are the PRs that matter. I’m, of course, going to say it’s the eating you’ve done for the past 4 weeks that’s responsible for all of it vs all the good decisions you’ve made before that, haha. But being serious: I am so excited for you. That’s just such a mental burden to be able to let go of.
