I haven’t watched that one yet! I read/ listened to all the books, though. What an amazing character.
You rocked that assignment!! And just in time - you were going to be receiving a text from me tomorrow asking you how you were coming with that. Nice job dodging that bullet!
My only suggestion for improvement - maybe throw in a bag of frozen veggies, because you know how I feel about them! lol
I’ve got the apple in there!
But, ugh, fine!
Did we watch the same film? I thought the acting was great but felt a bit let down following on from the series, don’t even get me started on how they missed some great stuff out of the books. Think they should have spread it over 2 films, definitely felt rushed. Having said that the ending was brilliant
At first the departure from the books annoyed me, but I liked both the show and the books so then I decided I was just happy to have more Uhtred stories. The books were so incredible, I don’t know how you could pull all that into a show. I’ve only seen the series, though, and not the last movie yet.
I will say (and I’m being purposefully vague to try and not spoil whichever medium folks haven’t enjoyed), I do think the show badly handled the stories of both Cnut and Aelfric. Those stories were meaningful for Uhtred’s development, reputation, life outcome, etc. and the departures in the show changed the whole scenario. I didn’t like that.
Agree it should have been spread out and yeah they missed a load of stuff. Maybe i just love anything with swords and shields in these days.
Edit: Also teh winter king which is based on the warlord chronicles has wrapped up filming and will be released at some point. Can’t wait for that.
Same! I like The Witcher, too, even though some of it gets a little cornball for my taste. I could never get into Game of Thrones, though.
I didn’t realise they actually had done the filming yet? Literally my favourite books. I really hope they do it justice
@aholding88 @rugby_lifting I didn’t know they were filming those! That’s awesome.
Incredible author. Have you gents read his series on Sharpe? I haven’t read that one. He wrote a cool Grail story. It was a little different, but I liked it.
Read most of them but not all, my step dad loved those books and the TV series that followed so it was a part of my childhood. Read the first 3 grail books as well with the 4th currently on playing on audible. I’ve also got, but not read, the first of his Sealord books.
I’ve not read the sharpe series but probably should. I’m really into the more medieval time period so love the other Cornwall books.
I love the grail quest series and the warlord ones.
If you havent read them 1356 and agincourt are fantastic. Really hope that Bernard expands on that series.
I’ve actually started playing a medieval game recently which is fantastic. I’m not a huge gamer but play sometime to relax if I have any spare time. Its kingdom come deliverance, full on medieval world if you like that kind of thing.
I haven’t read the Sharpe ones either. I was kind of wondering if I should. I tend to appreciate the brutality of the feudal era as well.
I sometimes play games. The last two I remember playing were Batman and the Witcher. They were both fun. I need it to be relatively mindless and easy to jump in and out of.
@aholding88 @rugby_lifting I watched the finale today - I really didn’t like it. I guess because I read the books first, but I thought this was a disappointing finish to a great series.
I liked then. Definitely worth a read if you are looking for a new book.
I think if I hadn’t read the books I’d possibly feel different. It pissed me off they just skipped past war of the wolf and sword of kings. I did like the last 5 mins though. I made a bit of a pilgrimage to Bamburgh on the way up to Scotland last year which was pretty awesome
Sounds like it’s on the list - thanks!
@aholding88 that’s really cool! I want to do that too. That was my first thought when they showed the tours at the end.
I agree with you I think the books spoil it a little because they’re so good, which is how it should be. I do think the casting was right on. Everyone was exactly as I would have pictured them throughout the entire show.
Started Odin Force this morning!
I woke up at 2am, and the gym opens at 7 on Sundays, so I was hungry by the time I got there! Oh well. I also got to watch a Witcher episode, so it worked out.
I’m up to 3000 swings. They are wrecking me. I got much better at them really quickly, but my hands hurt. My lower back felt tired all day today, but that could also just be how sedentary I am at work lately.
Anyway, I’m a wuss, so everything was very light today… but it got done and it’s something to progress upon.

Squats
Used the 25# chains for all sets again
45/8
135/8
185/8
225/8 x 2
Told you it was light. Knees feel good though! -
Hack Squat
Used the close v-stance again. I like this one. The hack squat at this gym is weird; it kind of bends you over.
1pps/6
2pps/10 x 2 -
DB Reverse Lunge
Stood on a plate on front foot and tried to keep it mostly quad. My lower back got toasted between this and the swings at this point, so I’m sure I was getting sloppy somewhere.
25/10
25/10 + 6 + 4
Finally went to light on something! -
Banded RDL
Thought these would be feeder sets, but I used the gym’s band and it was just too heavy for me at this point. 3s negative, 1s pause at the bottom.
135 + band/3 x 2
Dropped the band and did a set of just 135/8. -
Standing Calf
170/10 + 6 + 4 x 2
These finally felt good! Probably because I really had to squeeze my glutes to make my back feel good, I actually straighter my legs and worked my calves.
Heck yes!!! Odin Force time!!! Every time I see the bad ass cover with John looking shredded and massive on it, I get inspired and hyped for the program! Great work today and am beyond ready to join you tomorrow!
3500 swings - screw these, I hate them! Which is good, I suppose. The individual days have gotten so much easier so quickly it’s shocking, but the cumulative soreness/ fatigue really builds. My traps and obliques are sore all the time.
Today was push day. It took awhile. I watched the Witcher yesterday, so obviously I pretended my coffee and Surge were potions and I was battling monsters. Yes, I’m an adult.

Band Rear Delt Pull
Kind of a cool move - I definitely was able to find failure on rear delts, which is tough
2 x 25 -
Smith OHP
I use this to replicate the cage press, so I do it the same way: set on the stops, lean into it, and press all the way through.
95/6
115/10
115/8 + 3 + 1
I was smoked at this point. -
Incline DB Front Raise
So these are really hard on a tiny little muscle. It’s worse right now because these really irritate that part of my forearm that the swings are beating up. I wussed my way on through
10/10 x 2 -
Rope Pressdowns
A warmup
Set of 10
Set of 10 + 6 + 4 -
EZ Skullcrushers
I hadn’t done these in a long time, but I found an awesome groove that was all triceps. Consequently, I’d picked too heavy a Wright, but that was fine.

70/8
70/7 + 3 + 1
That looks a long workout, how long did it take?
