I feel you there brother. The next 3-4 years in my house are going to be interesting
My wife is out of town on her first business trip this week (kinda cool!). The night before she left, my daughter went into the bathroom and came out and said “mom, come here quick!” I was terrified - like what am I going to do all alone with this?? Turned out it was not that, but the fear was real.
Back workout again (that’s the focus right now).
-
Supinated pulldowns
Did these one arm at a time and held a band contraction on the non-working arm. Unreal cramps! Warmed up and 3 sets of 10. -
Machine row
Did these kind of explosively, because the machine was very smooth with no “give,” and held the contraction for a beat. Worked up heavier than I thought I would and did 3 x 8. -
DB shrugs
2-second hold at the top for 3 x 10. -
Hyperextension
3 sets - kept it kind of right in the middle of the ROM and was able to get a pretty uncomfortable pump. -
Rope crunch
4 sets -
Leg press machine calf
4 x 15 with tibia raises in between.
Everyone at my losing company has been really awesome to me on the way out. My gaining company is also cool (I just met that team) and I think the scope of the role is exciting. Good problems to have, I suppose.
Now it’s time to go get the kids’ Halloween costumes!
Feeling way back to myself lately, my friends; better than I’ve felt in awhile.
Arm day
-
Pushdown
Used the dual spongy grips
Warmed up, then 4 x 10-12 -
Reverse Pushdown
Same handles
4 x 10 -
Decline DB Skullcrusher
4 x 10-12 -
BB Curl
Warmed up, then 3 x 8 -
Pinwheel Curls
3 x 12-15 -
Preacher Curl
3 x 8 -
Leg Raise
4 sets -
Smith Calf Raise
10 + 10 partials + 10s stretch x 4 sets
Tibia raises in between
Can I ask why ? Is it because having a yoked back is awesome or are you working on a weakness ??
@SvenG and @TrainForPain, this is hopefully still a few years away, but this is how I’ll be handling things when my daughters grow up.
I think these days the boyfriend is less worry than everything else they seem to have to deal with. Everything at my daughters school (first year of high school) seems to be about gender bias and then being allowed to be any gender they want. My daughter doesn’t know which was is up. If she has a good girls friend does that mean she is a different gender bias. It is Fkn ridiculous
@simo74 just because that’s what’s on the paper. I’m interested in the idea of bodypart specialization, and I have a Meadows program from he was still alive that I never ran that is built that way. Back is what’s up first, and I do better thinking than executing.
@Frank_C love it! My default is Roy Kent in Ted Lasso
You are absolutely right. Everyone’s insane agendas being thrown on our kids is too much. If I want something done incompetently, I hand it to the government; why would I want them to have more control over my children’s development??
I am a very tolerant person but there comes a point where it is just people shoving things in your face to be politically correct. That I can not stomach. Wankers
A lot of it comes down to it’s simply not their place for me. I mean, holy crap we aren’t even good at math; let’s maybe spend some time there before we decide we’ve got other lessons to teach.
That is so true, imagine the wasted opportunity in terms of learning hours spend on this and other useless crap.
I used to joke with my wife that we could really ruin our daughter by teaching her that red is blue, and blue is red. She would literally have to be de-programmed if we did that for long enough… but here we are doing that with genders.
We do homeschooling through a charter school for now, where we’re allowed to purchase our own school supplies. We’ve gone with the Tuttle Twins for as much stuff as we’re able to; they teach history as it actually happened and 2+2 still equals 4. They’re conservative based, but honestly my daughter was going to learn the conservative/libertarian POV via my wife and me, whether school taught it to her or not. Anyways, if that’s something that sounds appealing to you and your wife, they have content for all ages that might help stave off the brainwashing a little more.
@simo74 i feel for your situation, but i don’t know how applicable the Tuttle Twins core learning stuff applies to those not US based. I believe you are in Australia (?); if so, you guys have been getting put through the woke ringer… i don’t have much to add other than that i feel for you guys over there in upside-down land.
Yer. It’s hard enough walking around on your hands all day and avoiding all the stuff that can kill you, without schools adding to our worries. ![]()

I’ll get back to the budding topic here, but we’re on our way to a pumpkin patch.
Quick back workout today
-
Low rows
Used the MAG grip (I love these). 3 x 10 after warmups -
Assisted Pull-ups
3 x 10, working my way down so the last set had no assistance -
Rack pulls
Purposefully kept these very light (they were supposed to be on a smith machine and a low RPE) - it was actually annoying to hold back, but I’m supposed to with the higher frequency. Got to use the new 10mm lever on these and freaking loved it.
Held a band contraction for 15s before each set, then 3 x 5 with 315. -
Hypers
2 x 15
Which MAG grip? I’ve been using the almost underhand grip for lat stuff and the almost knuckles up grip for mid back.
What’s up with these band iso holds? Does that feel useful, or just non sensical?
Feeling way better and arm day go hand in hand!
I think we’re on the same page here! Today it was the close knuckles up one, and it was ok. I should have used the more supinated one.
This one. I don’t really have a problem contracting my last, though, so maybe it would be useful for folks that can’t feel them as much? Now I have done the CT deadlifts where you band the bar to a rack in front of you, so it’s pulling away. That really does force me to lock my lats in in a way I feel.
Great point!
It’s the same over here. It’s ridiculous. A couple of my co-workers are lesbians and they think it’s ridiculous. We keep getting forced training to “support” these confused students.
I look back to my school days and skaters and goth kids were the odd ones. I liken this gender nonsense to that. Kids don’t fit in so they find something different to latch on to and find their place. Skaters and goth kids are mostly gone, but now it’s the gender identity. If they’d just shut up and stop pushing it on our kids, it would go away. A kid who hasn’t hit puberty shouldn’t even consider acting like the opposite sex. They don’t have the hormone concentrations associated with sex drive and attraction.
I agree completely. Kids are always going to feel like they don’t perfectly fit in: that’s the nature of it. To now encourage lifelong consequences because of this completely normal and temporary emotion is insane.
This singular issue isn’t the only symptom of this new attitude, but it’s a glaring one. Kids are supposed to be off-limits.
