There isn’t one. He’s not getting any “help” by having fucked up adipose legs. He just made himself big and strong as fucking hell all on his own.

A lot of people in this world, and subsequently this forum, can’t think critically. They are going to maul you for making this comment. But I think this is a very interesting point. Kind of like how blind people have amazing hearing.

You aren’t taking anything away from this amazing guy, but you are just trying to rationalize this, magic doesn’t exist, but don’t try telling that to some people…
^your example is one sense taking over for another sense. This is accomplished through a reconfiguration of neural pathways within the brain. MRI studies have shown this to be the case. So it’s not really like blind people having exceptional hearing. How, exactly, does your analogy apply here? I just find the claim to be baseless, and I would like to hear a better reason than an apples to oranges analogy as to why not having the use of his legs helps him.
so why wouldn’t the brain reconfigure its neural pathways for this guy? instead of the nerves that involve eye/ears, in this case the nerves involve the legs/arms.

Im not an expert, I just thought it was an interesting point that may have some merit…definitely doesn’t deserve the lolz and flamming

From a functional perspective, it doesn’t make sense, unless he walks on his hands.

I don’t think you understand the premise. In the senses case, ears are functionally replacing eyes to sense the world around the individual. To a blind person, sounds excite nerves in the part of the brain where, in fully functioning people, they would be excited by sight. All of this activity takes place within the brain. Not muscles. It’s changing where/how sensory information is processed. That’s why some blind people say they can “see” sounds.

With the bench press, we’re talking about physical output, not the processing of information.

For this to be even somewhat of a reasonable comparison, you would have to say that the spatial movement center of the brain has become entirely devoted to the upper body (quite possibly true) AND that this effects the individual’s ability to build muscle/produce force, specifically as it relates to the bench press, in a significant way (probably not true, for a variety of reasons).

humbling and inspirational at the same time. this made a already bad day(i am sick with stomach flu) a little bit better. thanks for posting!

Wow, that butthurt.

Or maybe he’s spent his entire life developing his arms since he needs them for mobility?

I think it would be similar to the case with that exceptional female rock climber who’s body adapted to her constant climbing as a child.

for once we agree

Man I swear Iranians were put on this planet to do two things lift and wrestle. That was very impressive.

Oh by the way a better term for cripple is physically handicapped.

Impaired, disabled, physically challenged, those incapable of using their legs…

should be! fuck he even unracks and racks by himself. soooth even lockout, long pause. some bullshit IPF rule probable states his feet have to be touching the ground, but this guy imho is stronger than spoto, mendy, kennaly, ect.

someone needs to send mark bell this link. he would give him press this amazing athlete deserves. I love the swagger and confidence he has approaching the lift, and how genuinely happy he is to be competing.

I find myself agreeing with Yolo more and more. He’s grown on me.

I’ve sent Brandon Lilly a MSG on Facebook asking him to pass this link onto Mark Bell - hopefully he will watch it and get him talked about.

With regards lift - absolutely fucking speechless. This, personally for me, tops Rhinos 2300 total and I thought that would be impossible!

Had some replies back and this Iranian bloke only wants to do ‘prestigious and honourable meets’. Saying he is an Olympic champion he can do what he likes! Also Mark Bell has seen it.

Surprisingly related info. I found out that the paralympics have a “powerlifting” event, which is just the bench press. I’ve been searching on youtube for coverage of powerlifting events in English with commentary and this is the best I’ve been able to find, besides a couple recaps of events from the late 70s and early 80s.

I have to say, this is the most impressive bench press video I’ve witnessed so far in my life.

it is not PC bullshit to call the guy “disabled” rather than a cripple especially when you say yourself “for lack of a better word”

there is a better word you moron

it is about showing him some basic respect as a human rather than a freakshow

People who read into cripple as being offensive are no different than people who freak out over calling someone “black” or “gay”.

How can I consider him a freak show when I’m giving him props as the GREATEST BENCHER EVER? I have mad respect for him and any “invalid.” They struggle with so much more shit than a normal, healthy human. Just surviving like that is impressive, let alone becoming the greatest at anything.

Untwist your fucking panties.
