Shrug-bar Deadlifts or Rack Pulls?

The gym I go to is not well equipped for performing regular deadlifts.

However, I’m able to do either rack pulls or shrug bar deadlifts.

Which one should I go with?

I want to get stronger and more muscular all over(duh).

I’m already doing heavy barbell squats and loving them.

I am confused. How can it not be well equiped for deadlifts if you have the choice of rack pulls or trap bar DLs instead?

If I’m not mistaken, the shrug bar is the same as a trap bar…? And if so, trap bar deadlifts are great from what I hear. If we had a trap bar at my gym I would use it occasionally for deadlifting.

Way i see it is the rack pulls eliminate the leg use of a deadlift. To answer the question deads are better for overall work since a rack pull is the upper half of a deadlift.

Ditto. If you can do rack pulls, what’s stopping you from moving the bar to the ground and doing deads? If you’re considering doing rack pulls, then there’s obviously enough weight for deads as well.

Do both.

  1. Pull bar from squat rack and place on floor.

  2. Add desired amt of weight.

  3. Lift it.

  4. Congratulations! You have just dead lifted.

  5. Rerack your weights, don’t be a dick.

My assumption is that you will get yelled at for slamming the weights on the ground.

If that is so, then you can do some light deads to get the movement…but then do the other lifts too.

Doing them both, not necessarily on the same day, is the best answer.

What exactly does this mean? They don’t have barbells, plates, and a 4’x8’ chunk of floor space?

Not to make this sound repetative but why dont you take the bar off the rack and do deadlifts???

Because upstairs were we have the gay-assed squat racks, the floor is not designed to for slamming heavy weights. I don’t want the fucking plates to get stuck in the floor.

The gay-assed squat rack (not a power rack) doesn’t permit regular deadlifting.

Downstairs we have just enough space for a trap bar, but there is not enough space for an olympic size barbell on the floor.

Trust me guys, I’m not stupid, if there was a way to deadlift there I would have started a long time ago.

if you got time to do both trap bar deads and rack deads do both but if i had to choose just one i would do the trap bar deads. Plus if your new to deadlifts the technique is way easier to do then olympic bar deads. So you’ll be able to handle more weight quicker. just remember to keep your head!
