I am planning to get back into lifting full bore after my second shoulder surgery. I have had issues with the biceps tendon and AC joint in my right shoulder from sports injuries.
One of the things I’m wondering is whether it would be beneficial to use a shoulder support to provide compression and warm while I lift. Note that I would not use them to restrict ROM, only to warm and compress.
Here are the two that seem to be the most widely used:
Sully: http://www.ortho-net.com/sully/sully_shoulder.htm
McDavid: http://www.ortho-net.com/mcdavid/mcdavid_shoulder.htm
The Sully is used frequently to help basketball and football players play through rotator cuff/AC joint injuries. In particular, it is adjustable to prevent certain problematic movements.
The McDavid is simpler and is mostly to provide warmth and compression. It is also cheaper, although I can probably get a prescription for either one so it will be covered by insurance.
Have any of you dudes ever used one of these? Any comments about the quality or feasibility of using one for lifting?
