Shoulder Diagnosis

Been having shoulder trouble which i believe is a combination of bicep tedonitis and an adduction/internal rotation problem ? - cant place my arm/hand behind my lower back and reach up to scratch my middle back with my thumb, can’t do dip type movements.

After warming up shoulder have no trouble with lateral, front and rear delt shoulder movement or neutral grip dumbel lpress. All done very lightly while going through this.

Know I wouldn’t be able to bench but have been doing light hammer strength press, wouldn’t even think about dumbell chest flyes. While dumbell rows don’t feel right Hammer strength Iso-Lateral pull downs are fine as are Hammer lat pulldowns.

Carrying my gym bag on my bad side is very uncomfortable ?? Yet I’m pretty certain I could do heavy shrugs except I’m avoiding them. Still doing deadlifts with 70% of max.

Self therapy - massaging, stretching and theraband rotator cuff excecises are helping with the bicep tedonitis - shoulder connection sensitivity but not sure why I’m having trouble with my hand going behind my back - terrible flexability.

Any suggestions.

While rolling on a tennis ball yesterday found a very senstive spot on the outside of my lat -teres minor?? could this be causing the problem.

6 months ago had the same problem on my other side but now it’s fine

Thanks for any informed advice.

Someone on another forum suggested Accupuncture - anyone had it help their Shoulder impingement.

Been making some good progress with tennis ball rolling, theracane, stretching, massaging and theraband.

Standard shoulder movements press and anterior, lateral and posterior rasises all fine.

But still hving trouble with minor movements of right arm (when held at waist level)around the front and back of may body eg giving it a shake after having a leak or threading belt through belt loop on pant at 3/4 point ie. reaching round to thread above right gluete or trying to scatch middle of back with my thumb

Any suggestions on what might be causing this and help fix would be really appreciated.

It sounds as though you have an impingement issue…are you getting the pain on scratching your back?

You need to remember, the internal rotators of your shoulder include:
Lat dorsi
Teres Major
Subscapularis
Pec Major
Deltoid (ant fibers)

These need to be lengthened out. You may do the stretches yourself. I recommend going to see someone about it though.
The other thing to keep in mind is that 80% of shoulder issues arise from muscular imbalances…these being either weak or short muscles or a combination (usually a combination). Also bc of this issue, your shoulder abduction movement pattern (as described by Vladmir Janda) is most likely off. In order to properly assess shoulder function, you will need to go to a qualified sports chiropractor or physiotherapist.

Good advice dsuave - got an appointment tom.
