Shoulder Bruises from Hack Squats

Out of curiosity, does anyone else get shoulder bruises when doing lifts like standing calf raises and hack squat presses?

It doesn’t hurt at all, but every time I do one of these exercises, I get like 3 vertical red stripes on the top of each shoulder, right where the traps hit.

I used to, how long have you been using those sorts of apparatus…es?

Yep. I get bruises that follow the seams in my t-shirt when I do those.

Off and on for a few years, but not that often. I usually prefer other exercises, like sitting calf raises or lying calf presses. Sounds like doing it more often would lead to less bruising?

There great just tell your girflriend you kicked his ass and should see what his face looks like.

I get the same exact thing.

Sometimes when my grip doesn’t want to work for my last set of shrugs I’ll do shugs in the calf raise machine.

I get them after I do those, but they always go away after a few days. No biggie. Not really bruises though, more like pinch hickies.

I get two bruises on my hip bones from weight belt doing dead lifts – I used to not wear a belt but sprained back about 2 years ago doing deads.

funny thing is i was accused of cheating – she thought they were hickeys…

I use a tank and make sure the bar is pretty grippy so it doesn’t slip. Bruises are just part of the game.

Burst blood capillaries. No big deal.

You will callous soon.

Get the same thing. For some reason I couldn’t figure out what the hell they were from and then one day I put it all together…lol

What I meant was his body will adjust. I’ll be sure to spell things out around here.

I’m not sure the body ever adjusts to that…I get them EVERY time I do these exercises, which is very regularly. Usually go away in a day or two.

i get them too, just last night my girlfriend asked me what the hell i did to my shoulder…

when you have 400lbs on your shoulders, thats a lot of pressure, it is from the seam of your t-shirt… i get it from squats sometimes also.

I used to get sore shoulders from that, my hands used to hurt when i did back and arms. They no longer ht as my body has adjusted. Maybe you can put a pillow on the pad or wear a heavy shirt, some people use pads on the squats bar for this same reason. I think it’s called a sissy pad.(not a joke)

Yeah, I was wondering about that. If the weight causes your capillaries to burst I’m not sure how your body would adjust so it doesn’t keep happening.

Is it from your t-shirt or from the pressure being localized at your traps? I bet if you did the exercise with your shirt off, you would still get the burst capillaries.

Yep, I get the exact same thing. I agree with PMPM in that they do seem to follow what would be a t-shirt seam line, but I usually work out in a tank top, and I get them, so I’m not sure that that’s it. Of course, maybe I only get them on the occasions I wear a t-shirt… Hmmm, I’ll have to make a mental note of this and pay attention now.
