Deadlift Battle Wounds

DOes anyone else get all scraped up from deadlifts? ANd also; how do some people deadlift without gloves? I forgot my gloves the other day so I decided to skip them. I’m not a pussy either.

It’s just that the pain I experience is more in my hands than in my hamstrings and lower back. If you can DL over 250 with a decent amount of reps, you are my new hero.

Do you wear them for much else ?

That’s funny. My hands don’t hurt at all.

I remember when I first started lifting I couldn’t even hold onto the 60lb dumbbell because my hands were so soft.

I never wear gloves, they ruin my grip. I scrape shins, knees, etc., and get all sorts of pretty bruises. If lifting in shorts, I wear knee high socks, which help. I prefer to DL in pants.

I stiff leg deadlift 250 for 8 and my hands are fine, but I did doubles once with a friend and by the time we got to 385 my hands were hurtin’ pretty bad

do you do mixed grip? if not, than i can see where you’re coming from…but if you’re using mixed grip…you may want to reconsider if you’re a pussy or not(just playing, -your hands will adjust in time, but you need to do some mainanace to keep your callouses in proper order sometimes)

and i actually got a good dinger on my shin from today’s leg day

I hate DLing in pants of any kind becuse they make it hard to pull the bar up my legs. The pants kind of snag the bar. Almost nothing hurts my hands any more. The only time my hands hurt is on the days that I do DL’s for my first movement. THen do all my lat work (chinups, then pullups *low reps w/ more weight), then T-bar row) then do rack pulls.

The last 3 or 4 sets of rack pulls are always torture.

What hurts tho is my hands themselves, not the skin/callouses on my hands.

WHen i start repping anything over 395, it feels like my hands are gonna rip apart, like my bones havnt caught up to my muscles. IDk this is the only way i can describe it. I would like some advice for this. if anyone has any tips to help.

in the mean-time im pounding down the milk always trying to keep my bones in good shape.

Nah nothing else just deadlifting. SOmetimes I’ll keep them on for the rest of my back workout but I don’t NEED them like I do for deadlifting

I actually do used mixed girp. DO you think that is why they hurt so much?

sorry, i thought if you were gripping double overhand that gets strenous for reps…but mixed, idk man,just keep working on it, if you dont use gloves after a while your hands will just adjust…and for strength, maybe you could focus on that a bit more in your next training block or something?

So I guess I’m a pussy too. I wear knee socks and pants. I keep getting contusions in the same spot when I do singles.

I bled through some pants before I got the socks. Haven’t bled with the socks, but still bruise up.

OP - Drop the gloves and get some chalk, keep at it and you’ll be fine with time.

Maybe i’m the odd one out here, but gloves make my grip worse, like working with a fatter bar and makes it harder to hold on to. Plus I pretty much always do double overhand, I just re-ajust my grip every rep, helps keep me from bouncing.

Plus, our relatively small, unpadded pullup bar hurts my hands more then deadlifts do, even then it’s pretty small.

Between lifting,bartending(opening beer bottles) and playing guitar, I really don’t think I could hurt my hands if i wanted to.

And no, I have never had a girl complain about my “rough” hands, I fucking hate when guys want to defend wearing gloves because they act like soft hands alone is going to get them ass, and that any girl is gonna say EWWWW at the sight of my hands.

Messed up looking knees and shins.

I have scraped skin from my forearms. Has anyone else had this. Apparently when I am letting the bar down my forearms rub against my shorts and I get these irritating bruisings.

You need to lose the gloves, but you can help the transition by getting a pumice stone and a butter knife. Soak your hands and then cut the calouses off with the knife. Then use the pumice stone to smooth everything off.

If that doesn’t work, spend some time doing static holds with barbell + as much weight as you can handle. Just like losing that gay foam pad from squats and growing pubes, once you lose the gloves you’ll be closer to becoming a man.

there is no way my calouses are coming off with a knife without making me bleed all over the place. I have big ass calouses.

A 250 deadlift is heroic?

Put the gloves back in your purse.
