Should I Cut? Updated With Pics

Ok, guys, I need some opinions on this. I was ~135lbs last June and now I’m 165lbs. I was stuck at 160lbs for like 3 months and I just broke that barrier last few weeks.

My problem: getting fat around the lower belly with upper abs definition vision when flex.

My measurements:
Belly 28 to 35 (in the morning)
Bi & Tri 12.5 to 14.6
Thighs 21 to 26
Chest 38.5 to 41

I have 1.5 wks of ABBH I left then 2 wks of maintainence and a back off wk.
Question is should I cut after that or keep doing what I am doing?

Thanks!
GB

Are the measurement differences relaxed/flexed? A seven inch difference in your abs is rather odd.

Whether or not you cut up a bit is based upon your goals. Personally, I would suggest continuing to gain mass. Bulking does cause you to put on a bit of fat, but 165 is still not very large. If you want to look all pretty for summer, then cut down a bit. But if you are merely worried about gaining too much fat, don’t be.

my two cents.

oh, and your center region are your Abs, not your belly.

Yeah the term “cut” gets thrown around too much here. It’s called “dieting”. But no, don’t diet, you have no reason too. Just keep doing what you doing.

At 165 pounds BULKED I would say hell no, but your measurements indicate you are a lot shorter than me. So just go by what the mirror tells you.

It seems to me that these measurements must be the changes from the beginning of the bulk till now rather than differences flexed and unflexed. The differences are just too large. If so, good work. What’s your diet like. You seem to have gained a little more fat than I have. I have had some good muscle gains but am not happy with the loss of definition.

Still, I plan to continue to bulk. And rather than cutting calories, I’m just going to make everything absolutely as clean as possible. I plan to bulk until August and then start cutting/leaning out/dieting (whatever you want to call it) for a wedding the end of september. Some of it has to do with how easily you lose fat too. I can lose two pounds a week fairly easily without losing muscle. So I should be able to lose about 15 pounds in about two months. Pictures might help with advice.

But really it’s how much fat you’re comforatble with having. I personally don’t like having more but I don’t mind it too much. I know long-term it will be better for me to do a longer bulk.

Here are some pics, I know I am small, but I don’t want to be once of those fat skinny guy. That’s why I was wondering if I should start my diet now.

and back shot. and i am 5’8" or 5’9"

Also, those measurement was from 135lbs to 165lbs. and I made a mistake for the thigh, it’s:
Thigh 19 to 22 (mid thigh)

everything was measured in relax mode except for arms.

You look decent, keep bulking. Your stomache is perfectly fine. Keep doing what your doing, you’ll be 200 in no time

I agree. You definitely don’t look skinny/fat to me. Neither does it look like you have enough fat on you where there’d be any reason to cut right now.

Jsbrook, GriffinC thanks for the input! I have took some pic this morning when I woke up. Hopefully, I am still ok to keep bulking.

And also, I think I will stop bulking once my waist reach 36 because all my pants don’t fit any more. When I do reach 36" waist, I will probably get it down to 31 or 32 before I bulk again. I would rather spend the money on Biotest product than new pants.

Thanks! Guys!

Another front, flexed

Keep bulking, eat cleaner, and add 1 every other week of some type of interval training. (Dan john has a great Tabata workout on this site, do a search)

But do not keep bulking.

I want to emphasize that before a certain someone rips on you.

uh its early :-/ and i think in my last post i said “do not keep bulking”…

I meant “Do NOT stop bulking”…

I’ll edit it accordingly later.

Fix your posture and your gut will look even better.

I agree. Continue to work on adding strength/size. But definitely do it by cleaning up your diet more so you limit the fat gain. I would not do a full-on “bulking” cycle and eat everything and anything. You’ll gain more fat than muscle and be back to square one.

You’re not too fat at this point, so don’t cut now. Clean up the diet, and add some cardio, HIIT or GPP.

What I’d suggest is not full on dieting but sort of gradually dieting/recomping. Just eat around maintence cals, really clean massive eating/don’t diet sort of thing and concentrate on a strength phase training wise (instead of hypertrophy). If you did a little bit of easy cardio on your off days that help too.

This is what I did prior to actually reducing cals and really dieting and I didn’t lose any weight, but got stronger and leaner. This would “prime” your body for your next bulking phase as being leaner helps with bulking and stronger does of course too. Don’t think of it as dieting really, just as an important part of your quest for size.

I agree with the aforementioned advice: Be precise in your calorie calculations and make sure you’re eating just enough to gain if you’re concerned about anymore fat. Like Nate said, the “eat till you puke route” might not be the best bet for you.

I don’t think you look fat though, so keep chuggin away, clean foods, no extreme calorie excesses. Don’t cut calories at the expense of results though. Adjust, evaluate, proceed or adjust again.

Also, your chest development looks great, way to go. Your back is comin along nicely too. You look much more “complete” than many guys of your same relative size, looks like you’ve done your homework and are balanced. Good job.

Good luck man

I agree that your posture sucks and takes away from the appearance of a decent build.
Anyone know of any articles to help with posture? I kind of have the same prob.
