It never fails. If I am shopping at a sporting good store or a Play It
Again and I am there for more than 15 minutes, a guy will show up and begin
asking the clerk questions in a loud voice with the only purpose being
to demonstrate that none of the equipment for sale is capable of standing up to the poundages he uses in his workouts. The guy always looks as
though he might have lifted weights 1-2 times, maybe in high school and that is
about
it.
The conversation normally goes like this:
Clerk:" Hi, can I help you sir?"
The Guy: “Yeah, I need a new weight bench, my old bench just cant
handle the weight any more…what is the capacity of your most heavy-duty bench?”
Clerk: “This Model right here has a 800lb capacity.”
The Guy: “Uh, 800 means including the bodyweight right, is that a
kinetic load standard or an adjusted centrifigual capacity”
Clerk: “Um,I am not sure”
The Guy: “Well, that’s ok, I probably need something a little more
heavy-duty… I am tired of using a bench that is holding back my
progress-I guess I will have to get one custom made”
OR…
The Guy: " Excuse me, these dumbells you have on display only go up to
110lbs, are the heavier ones in the back?"
Clerk: “No sir, that is the heaviest ones we carry”
The Guy " I can’t find any place in town that sells dumbells heavy
enough for me to use…It really sucks!"
OR…
Clerk: “Can I help you sir?”
The Guy: " Yeah, I have a question about this leg press machine, do you
know how may plates you can load on it?"
Clerk: :" I think you can get about ten plates on each side"
The Guy: “Damn, do you sell an extension or something that lets you add more plates, I am already doing ten plates and its a breeze.”
Clerk: “No sir, that is all the machine will hold.”
The Guy; Sighs… “Oh, well, I guess I will have to get one custom made.”
