How does having sex affect your testosterone levels?
Who cares? Have sex first, worry about test levels second. If you’re worrying about test levels more than sex, then they’re low!
I hate these stock responses - if you don’t know the answer to the question then just don’t post. I’m sure the person posting the question does not intend to limit or time sex with his girlfriend in order to maximize his gains. I think that the question was intended to cover masturbation as well. For example, does sexual activity (sex or masturbation) after a workout help or hinder testosterone levels and recovery.

I’d like to see this one answered as well. They say mood elevates your t levels so wouldn’t having sex elevate mood? But it’s different for masturbation cause that can bring down your mood - so does that lower T?
I don’t know the answer… But I would assume that it has similar effects to aerobic exercise. If you’re doing it right it should be about the same as running for 20 minutes. (Just a guess)
As far as it applying to postworkout… I don’t know about you… But I’m usually not thinking about sex after working out in a room full of sweaty guys. Maybe in your gym there are women to watch going up and down on the squat racks all day long. I wouldn’t be able to get a good workout there but I’d probably be horny after an hour of that.
I think it would be bad to do just after a workout. But it’s one hell of a replacement for aerobic exercise. Just so long as you and your partner arn’t the two minute type.
that is a question that has been answered many times on this forum. supposedly it raises your t-levels but the amount it raises it is not significant enough to make any difference in gains or performance. also the smell of pussy is supposed to raise your t-levels too. but same thing there, probably not enough to make a difference in anything i dont think.
Actually it depends on your feelings about sex. If you have inhibitions from your childhood ie Very religeous and sex was bad. Then Sex and lower t-levels as it increases cortisol due to mental stress. If sex is generally good in your eyes then the relaxation can increase t-levels. My only comment is not to engage in sexual activity right before you are about to train or compete. Why?

All you want to do is go to sleep. I assume this is from the release of neurochemicals. You do not want to be training when your body is telling you, “Sleep, sleep!”

Not to be a smart ass, but I think this is sweating the small stuff. The only time I feel a little tired, is if I stayed up to late getting laid. I’m 3, in a ltr, and get laid about any day. I don’t think it raises my t levels to any degree or lowers. I never felt the need for lab work to see. The only problem is lack of sleep if things start to late, but hell I’ll take that problem anyday!
Thanos, relax man. John’s post was funny, and if we limit ourselves to pure factoid responses, this forum’s gonna get pretty bland. I’m with John and Irondoc - I can’t imagine any scenario in which giving up sex would have much of an effect on training one way or the other. There are better questions upon which to spend one’s time.
I once read that normal ejaculant contains 1/3 of the average man’s daily zinc and other stuff. What is the impact of that on us and how many calories are expended? - Would be interesting to know for dieting/bulking.

There have been a few correct responses stating that there is a slight incraese in testosterone, one article put the raise around 20%, which might sound like a lot but this only lasts for a short time. I’m not sure of the cause of the increase but would guess it would be from an increase in LH. As far “holding back” your training it really depends on the individual, some want to sleep afterward while others say it invigorates them. Charlie Francis said that the East Germans tried to pair up their athletes, to increase sexual activity and would often treat them to a pornagraphic movie the night before they would compete. He also told a story of when Ben was seduced by a female reporter (paid off by one of his rivals) minutes before the race. Although he barely made it to check in intime he went ahead and kicked there asses in the race (of course Ben probably could have won the race while hopping on one leg, but I think you get the point). This is just anectdotal evidence but training with in a few hours of sex probably would limit the intensity, however sex before an athletic competition such as basketball or football of baseball might help ones “rythmn” thus being a performance enhancer. Just ask James Worthy or Dan Marlere( Both have been caught before games in the hotel room with multiple partners)
The other side of the coin is being excited but NOT satisfied. What happens when you throw on a good porn in a room full of drunken Dudes…Tempers start to be shorter, drinking speeds up, rowdiness sets in all in all you have a problem on your hands or just a good ol’ time if you are a hells angel. With that being said what about being teased or aroused but not satisfied before training or a game? Increased intensity? or just high blood pressure with no increased androgens?

Well, it all depends. If it is with a woman, it is helpful. If it by yourself, you will go blind, grow hair on your hands, etc. which will not be good for your T-Levels.
